If you were expecting the Penguins-Flyers series to be nothing but chaos, fights, and human sacrafice you were probably disappointed by the first two games.

They were physical, but they were clean. They were definitely exciting, but that was mainly due to both teams playing run-and-gun hockey and completely abandoning anything that resembled defense. And let's not forget some terrible goaltending.

In the first period of Game 3 on Sunday afternoon all of that continued to happen. Along with that, we also had the chaos and madness that didn't exist in Games and 1 and 2.

Sidney Crosby and Claude Giroux fought. Kris Letang, Kimmo Timonen and Arron Asham were all ejected. The teams combined for over 70 penalty minutes. The period itself took nearly an hour to complete in real time. It was completely bonkers. A lot of it was the Penguins seemingly running out of answers, losing their composure and, for lack of a better description, completely embarrassing themselves.

Here's the brawl that resulted in Letang and Timonen getting the rest of the afternoon off.

After all of that was settled, Flyers forward Brayden Schenn delivered a hard hit (and what appeared to be a clean one) along the boards. He was instantly greeted by a cross-check to the neck by Arron Asham. And then Asham attempted to punch him while he was down on the ice. He received a match penalty for this.

Perhaps Brendan Shanahan's office will be busy on Monday, too.

Some might say this was Pittsburgh looking for a spark. Or that it was done in an effort to build some momentum in a series that appeared to be slipping away. I'm not sure how good of an idea it is for your captain and best player is getting into a fight and spend five minutes in the box, or have your best defenseman get ejected.
