The Buffalo Sabres are reportedly set to hire Tim Murray as the team's new general manager, according to multiple reports.

McKenzie goes on to report that there are still several factors pending, including ownership approval.

Murray has been in Ottawa since 2007, and he's acted as the GM of the team's AHL affiliate since '07. His career began in 1993 when he served as a scout for the Detroit Red Wings. He has also spent time with the Panthers, Ducks, and Rangers.

The timing of the announcement is especially interesting, given that teams are beginning to gripe about losing front office personnel mid-season. Though little is expected to be done from the league office -- at least in terms of forcing compensation -- some teams may not allow assistants to be interviewed until the offseason.
