Michael Grabner: Waived unconditionally
The Coyotes placed Grabner on unconditional waivers for the purpose of buying out his contract Saturday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Grabner is still a solid bottom-six player and a good penalty-killer, but he isn't worth the $3.35 million he was set to make in 2020-21. The 32-year-old winger should have plenty of suitors in free agency, but his lack of offensive upside will keep him out of the fantasy discussion.

Coyotes' Michael Grabner: Tallies decisive SHG
Grabner scored a short-handed goal on two shots Sunday in a 4-3 win over the Predators in Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Qualifiers.
Grabner was home-free from his own blue line and beat Nashville netminder Juuse Saros with a nifty backhand move, putting the Coyotes up 4-1 in the final minutes of the second period. The goal held up as the game-winner following a late Nashville comeback attempt. Scoring heroics aside, Grabner received just 9:12 of ice time, second fewest among all Arizona skaters.

Coyotes' Michael Grabner: Lone bright spot in loss
Grabner tallied a goal in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Golden Knights.
Grabner was the only Coyote able to solve Marc-Andre Fleury in the contest. Through 38 games this year, the 32-year-old has eight goals and three helpers. He's potted only two goals in 12 appearances in December -- Grabner is as streaky as they come and can only be counted on for a handful of hot streaks each season.

Grabner opened the scoring three minutes into the game when he deposited his seventh goal of the season. The goal, his first since Veteran's Day, put an end to Grabner's 13-game goal drought. The 32-year-old enjoyed back-to-back 28-goal campaigns in 2016-17 and 2017-18, but he's only managed 15 goals in 72 games since joining the Coyotes prior to last season.

Coach Rick Tocchet deemed Grabner "a little banged up" ahead of Thursday's game against the Maple Leafs and he will not play, Alexander Kinkopf of the Coyotes' official website reports.
Grabner's absence Thursday will mark his first of the season. He slowed down over the last four games after a five-game point streak in early November, though the veteran's eight points through 22 games this season likely leave him in DFS flier status and only owned in the deepest of fantasy leagues. Barrett Hayton will replace him in the lineup Thursday and will presumably slot in on the fourth line.

Grabner scored a goal on his lone shot and had three hits in a 4-3 loss to the Wild on Saturday.
Grabner opened the scoring nine minutes into the game for his fifth goal of the season. It extended his point streak to four games, during which time he has two goals and four points. Grabner appears to be settling in after opening the season with just one goal in his first eight games. The 32-year-old had just nine goals in 41 games last season, but totaled 52 goals over his previous two seasons with the Rangers. If he's healthy in 2019-20, it's entirely possible he returns to his 25-goal form.

Despite his fourth-line deployment, Grabner could be a valuable depth scorer for fantasy owners, especially in formats where shorthanded points are counted.

Grabner scored two goals, including a short-handed marker, on two shots in a 4-2 victory against the Kings on Saturday.
The 31-year-old's shooting percentage spiked to 16.7 percent in his small sample size from this season (27 games) after Saturday. Most owners would expect that shooting percentage to drop over the final few weeks, but it won't necessarily with Grabner. From 2016-18, he registered a 16.4 shooting percentage in 156 games, so he's used to a high-level of success on few opportunities. It's quite possible that Grabner will keep scoring at his current rate. He has eight goals and 13 points in 27 games this season.

Coyotes' Michael Grabner: Leads team's forwards in ice time
Grabner (eye) skated 17:40 in a 2-0 win over the Flames on Thursday.
In his first game back after missing 41 contests with the injury, Grabner led all Coyotes forwards in ice time. He added a team-high five shots on goal and tossed three hits as well. The speedy winger should be able to add to his 11 points in 26 contests over the last chunk of the season while playing in the middle six.

Grabner has been removed from IR per the NHL media site, which was the final hurdle before he could suit up. The veteran may be eased back into action in a bottom-six role, especially considering he missed the last 41 games, though he could certainly get a look on the first or second line as well. Conor Garland or Josh Archibald figure to be the odd man out with Grabner healthy.

However, he's almost ready to return for a Coyotes team that actually has an outside chance of making the playoffs. The speedster has averaged 0.45 points per game over 10 years of NHL service time between six clubs, so check to see if he's available in deep leagues.

Grabner (eye) is still on injured reserve and is slated to miss Thursday's clash with Vancouver, Alan Robinson of NHL.com reports.
Grabner has been steadily improving, but the fact that he remains on injured reserve is a good indication his vision is less than 100 percent. The Coyotes are in the hunt for a Wild Card spot and could certainly use the center back in the lineup, as he's managed 11 points in 25 games this season and could offer some much needed depth scoring. Arizona hasn't announced a timeline for Grabner's return to action, so fantasy owners should consider him day-to-day at this point.
