Coyotes' Steve Downie: Reassigned to AHL
Downie was reassigned to AHL Springfield on Sunday.
Downie was recalled from the AHL affiliate Wednesday, and ended up drawing into Friday's contest with Boyd Gordon out due to an upper-body injury. The fact that he's being sent back could indicate Gordon will be ready for the team's next game, while Downie will now return to a role of organizational depth.

Coyotes' Steve Downie: Recalled Wednesday
Downie was recalled from AHL Springfield on Wednesday.
Downie spent five games in the minors after being sent down on Jan. 18, tallying a goal during the stint. After scoring 14 goals and 28 points with Pittsburgh last season, Downie has struggled in Arizona this season, with three goals and six points in 25 games. Downie will likely serve on the fourth line or as a 13th forward.

Downie cleared waivers Monday and has been sent to AHL Springfield.
The 28-year-old has six points through 25 games with the Coyotes this season, but will now join the AHL affiliate as organizational depth. It wouldn't be surprising if he rejoins the parent club later in the season.

Coyotes' Steve Downie: Goes on waivers
Downie was placed on waivers by the Coyotes on Sunday, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
Downie hasn't seen much ice time recently, but finally rejoined the lineup for Saturday's contest, playing 7:12 in the game. The team must have been unimpressed with what they saw from the winger, and it seems likely he will wind up in the AHL if he passes through waivers unclaimed.

Coyotes' Steve Downie: Will return Thursday
Downie (upper body) will return to the lineup Thursday night against Detroit, Sarah McLellan of the Arizona Republic reports.
The writing was on the wall that Downie would be activated following previous reports that Arizona sent winger Craig Cunningham to the minors. Downie missed the past 10 games with the upper-body ailment, but the two-way forward is evidently healthy again and should resume his hard-hitting ways as the team's loose cannon. Before his latest injury, Downie generated 19 hits in 14 games.

Downie has now missed three weeks since sustaining an upper-body injury, but he appears to be nearing a return. He'll be reevaluated Tuesday and plans to travel with the team for that day's contest against the Predators. A mid-week return seems possible at this point, either Tuesday or Thursday against the Red Wings.

The Coyotes' next four games will all be played on the road, which could indicate that the team doesn't expect Downie will be ready to return to action until after their four-game road trip. If that's the case, Downie won't have an opportunity to slot back into Arizona's lineup until Nov. 25 against the Ducks.
