Toby Enstrom: Taking talents back home
Enstrom signed a one-year contract to play for Modo in his native Sweden on Friday, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports.
Enstrom, who spent five seasons representing his hometown club from 2002-07, returns as team captain. The puck-moving defenseman accrued 54 goals and 254 assists to go along with a plus-5 rating over 719 NHL games for the Thrashers/Jets, and even though he was said to have drawn a "fair amount" of interest as a free agent, an attractive deal to remain in the NHL failed to materialize for the oft-injured 33-year-old veteran.

Jets' Toby Enstrom: Parting ways with Jets
Enstrom said he will not return to the Jets next season, Sportsnet reports.
The two-way blueliner doesn't know what it feels like to play for a different team, as he's been with the Jets since his draft year in 2003, when the club was based in Atlanta and called the Thrashers. Injuries limited Enstrom to 43 games this past season, and he put up a mere six points in that span. In his prime, he had no problem putting up 30-point seasons, but the Swede is now 33 years old and clearly on the downslope of his career.

Enstrom appeared in a mere 43 contests this season.
Various injuries throughout the 2017-18 campaign set Enstrom back and limited him to six points -- the lowest total of his 11-year NHL career. At this point, it seems improbable the blueliner will get back to being a 50-point producer like he was in his Thrashers days. More likely, the 32-year-old figures to be in the high teens, low 20s in terms of offensive numbers heading into 2018-19.

Enstrom (lower body) will make his 2018 postseason debut against the Predators on Friday.
Enstrom hasn't played since March 23 due to his lower-body injury. The Swede is slated to slot into the Jets' second pairing in order to provide some defensive support to the offensive-minded Dustin Byfuglien. With the 32-year-old Enstrom healthy, Joe Morrow figures to be the odd man out.

Enstrom (lower body) took part in Tuesday's practice sporting a regular jersey, Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun reports.
While the team hasn't provided an official update on Enstrom's status, it's definitely a good sign that he has been cleared for contact. At the earliest, the Jets won't be in action until Thursday for Game 1 against Nashville, which gives the defender a few days to see how he responds to the rigors of practice. If the Swede is given the all-clear to return, Ben Chiarot or Joe Morrow will likely be relegated to the press box.

It is certainly an encouraging sign that Enstrom was able to take the ice at Friday's optional morning skate, but fantasy owners will need to wait at least one more game for the defender to suit up. If the Jets can clinch the series in Game 5, the Swede will get some extra time to get back to 100 percent. Once Enstrom is given the all-clear, Tucker Poolman is a near lock to get bounced from the lineup.

Enstrom (lower body) is slated to be sidelined for Game 4 against the Wild on Tuesday after missing the game-day skate, per Ken Wiebe of the Winnipeg Sun.
Enstrom's return can't come soon enough for the Jets, who are now also going to be without the services of Tyler Myers (lower body) for Game 4. With both guys unavailable, Tucker Poolman will make his postseason debut on Winnipeg's third pairing. If the 32-year-old Enstrom can get healthy, he should bolster a blue line that is already doing a good job limiting shots on goalie Connor Hellebuyck (22 per game in the postseason).

This won't make much of an impact on fantasy owners, as Enstrom only had six points in 43 games this year. It seems that Enstrom is always hurt these days, which is quite unfortunate for a Jets team that's going to wind up in the postseason. Of course, the Swede hasn't been relevant in fantasy hockey for a few years now, even though he likely has name recognition for dropping 101 points between 2009-11 -- when the Jets were located in Atlanta and called the Thrashers. At any rate, expect the blueliner to be reevaluated ahead of Sunday's home clash with the Predators.
