Boulton's name has become synonymous with injuries, as various maladies have contributed to his averaging roughly 44 games over 15 years in the league. He's likely to toil on the waiver wire in most fantasy leagues this year.

Boulton inked a one-year, two-way deal with the Islanders on Friday.
Boulton, who turns 40 before the start of the season, has spent the past four years with the Isles, but has never logged more than 25 games for New York. In fact, over that span, the veteran has tallied a mere six points in 54 outings. In terms of fantasy, the winger is irrelevant, yet clearly adds something to the locker room as the team continues to keep him around.

Boulton has seen NHL action in just one game this season, playing just 8:28 during that contest. Considering he has very limited NHL action in his career, and has never averaged more than 9:00 of ice time, it's safe to avoid him for fantasy purposes.

There's no indication as to the nature of Boulton's injury, as he has only played one game this season, and that was on Dec. 12. The move was made retroactive to Jan. 2, meaning that Boulton can be activated as soon as Saturday, but it's unclear as to when Boulton may be able to return.

Even though Boulton is now healthy, it isn't likely that he draws into the lineup immediately. If he does, Boulton will play limited minutes on the Isles' fourth line for the purpose of adding toughness, not offensive production. In the last four seasons, the 39-year old winger has scored six points.

Islanders' Eric Boulton: Will not play Tuesday
Boulton (lower body) will be out for Tuesday night's contest against the Sharks, Kevin Kurz of CSNBayArea.com reports.
The 39-year-old veteran Boulton will continue to work his way back from an injury sustained Oct. 17. He likely would not be much of a factor anyway, as he has appeared in just 48 games over the last three seasons with the Islanders. His next chance to return will be Thursday when New York will play at Los Angeles.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Boulton only made his way into 10 games last season for the Isles, scoring two goals and adding 30 PIMs in that span. He's a part-time depth player at this juncture.
