The 30-year-old has appeared in just one NHL game in 2018-19 and has been a non-factor since arriving in New York last season via trade. This year, the veteran has posted three goals and 10 points in 15 games with AHL Hartford.

Beleskey's demotion is likely about getting him playing time, considering he has appeared in just one game for the Rangers this season. New York is off until Saturday's matchup with Florida, while its minor-league affiliate the Work Pack have a pair of games Wednesday and Friday. Beleskey will almost certainly be recalled ahead of Saturday's tilt.

Beleskey could make his Rangers debut Sunday versus the Jets if Mats Zuccarello (groin) and Vladislav Namestnikov (groin) continue to sit out. The 30-year-old didn't record a point and posted a minus-9 rating in 15 NHL games last year, so his fantasy value is negligible.

The Rangers placed Beleskey (shoulder) on waivers Wednesday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.
Beleskey has been sidelined for the first nine games of the campaign due to a shoulder injury, but that's evidently no longer an issue for the veteran winger. If he goes unclaimed, the 2006 fourth-round pick will almost certainly be assigned to AHL Hartford.

Rangers' Matt Beleskey: Upgraded to day-to-day
Beleskey (shoulder) is considered day-to-day, Rick Carpiniello of The Athletic reports, which means he could be available Tuesday against Florida.
Beleskey's original timeline put him returning Oct. 25, but his upgraded status could be an indication the winger is ahead of schedule. Whenever the Ontario native is given the green light to return, he will need to activated off injured reserve and would likely replace Vinni Lettieri or Cody McLeod in the lineup.

Belesky laid a hit on Stefan Noesen and then got into a scrap with Eric Gryba, so the injury likely occurred during one of those two incidents. The Rangers should provide an update on the injury in the next day or so, but for now he should be considered day-to-day.

While it originally appeared Beleskey would start off with the Rangers following a trade, he's in the lineup for AHL Hartford on Sunday, Mark Divver of The Providence Journal reports.
The 29-year-old will begin his career with the Rangers in the minors. Beleskey was only able to put up six points (four goals, two assists) in 21 games for AHL Providence and will look to better those numbers in a new environment.

Bruins' Matt Beleskey: Headed back to NHL
Beleskey was recalled from AHL Hartford on Sunday after being traded to the Rangers, per the AHL's official transaction log.
Although the 29-year-old wasn't able to get anything going this season in Boston, as he played just 14 games and wasn't able to record a point, perhaps a new change of scenery will help him revamp his game. After all, it was just two seasons ago he posted his career-high points total of 37, but it's still hard to see Beleskey receiving anything other than a bottom-six role on Broadway.

Rangers' Matt Beleskey: Dealt to Rangers
The Rangers acquired Beleskey, defenseman Ryan Lindgren, forward Ryan Spooner and a 2019 seventh-round pick from the Rangers on Sunday in exchange for forward Rick Nash. Per Bob McKenzie of TSN, the Bruins will retain 50 percent of the money remaining on Beleskey's contract.
A massive bust after inking a five-year, $19 million deal with the Bruins in the summer of 2015, Beleskey has spent most of the season at AHL Bridgeport after hitting waivers upon going without a point for 14 games in Boston. The organizational change can only help the 29-year-old, but it's unclear if the Rangers have any real plans of carving out a role for him at the NHL level or if he'll continue to languish in the AHL with their affiliate in Hartford the rest of the season.

Bruins' Matt Beleskey: Breaks orbital bone
Beleskey took a puck to the face during a 3-2 defeat to AHL Bridgeport on Friday, suffering a broken orbital bone from the incident, Mark Divver of The Providence Journal reports.
While this is awful luck for Beleskey, who had been playing for AHL Providence since he was designated for assignment Dec. 15, he's not expected to be out for an extended period and could return to the ice with a cage as early as Saturday. The 29-year-old has scored three goals in 10 games in the minors this season.

Bruins' Matt Beleskey: Placed on waivers
The Bruins have placed Beleskey on waivers, the Boston Herald reports.
The gritty winger has been a healthy scratch since Nov. 26, and prior to that Beleskey had logged zero points in 14 games for the B's, who signed him to five-year contract in July of 2015 that carries an average annual salary cap hit of $3.8 million. Per the report, if Beleskey goes unclaimed, the Bruins will gain $1.025 million in cap relief. In that scenario, the team could elect to send the 29-year-old to the AHL in order to give Beleskey a chance to get his game, in particular his scoring touch, back on track.
