  • Predators' Tom McCollum: Hits waivers following signing

The Predators signed McCollum to a one-year contract on Tuesday and placed him on waivers with the intention of sending him to the minors.

McCollum's two-way deal will earn him $650,000 at the NHL level and $100,000 in the minors and extends through the end of the season. For the time being, McCollum will serve as organizational depth at the position, though he could be a candidate for recall down the road should either Pekka Rinne or Juuse Saros be unavailable. The 29-year-old netminder has appeared in 26 games for AHL Milwaukee this season, posting an .895 save percentage and a 2.77 GAA over that span.

  • Red Wings' Tom McCollum: Reassigned to AHL

McCollum was sent back to AHL Grand Rapids on Wednesday.

McCollum was simply up with the NHL club to provide depth while Jared Coreau dealt with an illness, but his demotion likely signifies Coreau's return to health for Thursday's matchup versus the Canadiens. The 28-year-old McCollum has never developed into the force in net that the Red Wings hoped after selecting him 30th overall during the 2008 NHL draft, spending nearly all of his career thus far in the AHL. Unless something changes rapidly, he may wind up serving as a career organizational depth goalie.

  • Red Wings' Tom McCollum: Makes way to NHL

McCollum has been called up from the minors and will dress as the backup for Tuesday night's road game against the Blue Jackets, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.

McCollum was summoned to the parent club in the wake of news that Jared Coreau is dealing with the flu. The 28-year-old goalie has only appeared in three games for Detroit since the club selected him in the first round (30th overall) of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft -- he shouldn't see game action unless it's an emergency situation.

  • Red Wings' Tom McCollum: Reeled back by Detroit

McCollum was traded back to the Red Wings organization Saturday, with a conditional draft pick awarded to the Flames, Ansar Khan of MLive.com reports.

The Flames had actually loaned the minor-league tender to AHL Charlotte last March, which goes to show that he wasn't needed by a Calgary team that's been busy grooming a top goalie prospect in Jon Gillies. As for McCollum, Detroit selected him with the 30th overall pick in the 2008 draft, but he's played in just three NHL games to date and hasn't had the pleasure of doing so since the 2014-15 campaign.

He'll be joining system vets Michael Leighton and Daniel Altshuller in Charlotte.

Despite getting drafted with the 30th overall pick in 2008, the New York native has only made his way into three NHL games to date.
