McDonald (lower body) scored a goal for AHL Lehigh Valley against AHL Springfield on Wednesday.
That's the first game for McDonald in the minors after coming back from a lower-body injury that kept him sidelined for Flyers training camp. The veteran has 148 NHL games under his belt and could be in line for a call-up should the injury bug strike in the City of Brotherly Love, but for now, he'll I mpart his wisdom to the youngsters plying their trade with Philadelphia's development club.

McDonald (lower body) is listed on injured reserve, per the NHL's official media site.
Despite being waived by the team Monday, McDonald finds himself on the NHL roster rather than the AHL one, albeit amongst the walking wounded. The Connecticut native remains without a timetable for return, but even when he is healthy enough to come off IR, he may find himself headed for Lehigh Valley anyway.

Flyers' Colin McDonald: Lands on waiver wire
McDonald (lower body) was placed on waivers by the Flyers on Monday, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.
McDonald was a long shot for Philadelphia's 23-man roster coming out of camp, so it shouldn't come as a surprise that he was sent down to the minors once given the all-clear. With the Phantoms last season, the winger tallied 25 goals and 19 helpers and could at least get a look from interested teams, but will head to AHL Lehigh Valley if he clears.

The 32-year-old winger provides the Flyers' AHL affiliate with veteran leadership, but he was never going to be in consideration for a spot on the big club's Opening Night roster, so fantasy owners don't need to concern themselves with his availability. Once healthy, McDonald will be sent to the minors.

McDonald was recalled from AHL Lehigh Valley on Saturday.
McDonald was put through the wringer when the Flyers waived him ahead of the 2016-17 campaign, but the veteran is accustomed to being a part-time player. In fact, he's only appeared in 145 career games at the age of 32, accumulating a mere 19 goals and 26 assists over that span. Still, Philly has lost Matt Read (upper body) for the season, so a reinforcement was needed at the forward spot.

McDonald is a 32-year-old defender who's having a tough time finding an organization willing to grant him a substantial role at the NHL level. Drafted by Edmonton with a second-round pick in 2003, McDonald has only posted 19 goals and 26 assists over 145 career regular-season games. If he clears waivers, it's expected that the big winger will join AHL Lehigh Valley.

The 31-year-old McDonald gives the Flyers added depth and experience up front for their playoff run, but he's only worth a look in the deepest of postseason formats, given his modest upside on offense. McDonald -- who has 14 goals and 32 points in 51 AHL games to date in 2015-16 -- has notched one goal in his five games with the big club this season.

McDonald took advantage of the opportunity afforded him due to Sam Gagner's injury, and put two shots on net, and recorded three hits and five penalty minutes in the contest in 7:39 of ice time. It's unclear how long he'll remain with the club, especially with R.J. Umberger starting to close in on a return, but he'll look to do all he can to make the decision tougher.
