Dale Weise: Signs overseas
Weise inked a one-year contract with Swedish club IK Oskarshamn on Monday, per agent Nick Riopel.
Weise didn't play anywhere during the 2020-21 season but will be headed to Europe for the first time in his professional career. At this point, Weise is likely done playing in the NHL, which would see him eventually retire having appeared in 513 games in which he tallied 55 goals and 70 assists.

Dale Weise: Will hit open market
The Canadiens aren't going to re-sign Weise, which means he'll hit the open market as an unrestricted free agent Oct. 9, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.
Weise only appeared in 23 games with the Canadiens in 2019-20, picking up five points over that span. He's already expressed that he wants to play in the NHL in 2020-21, but he may have to settle for a two-way deal in order to do so.

Canadiens' Dale Weise: Fills in for Thompson
Weise filled in for Nate Thompson (illness) on the fourth line in Saturday's 4-3 overtime loss to Dallas. He had two shots, five hits and one blocked shot over 11:48 of ice time.
Thompson missed his first game of the season due to the flu, so Weise drew into the lineup after being a healthy scratch the previous four contests. The Canadiens lost their fourth straight and fell farther behind in the race for a postseason berth. That's a situation that could lead to a youth movement, in which players like Weise are replaced by a prospect such as Ryan Poehling or Jesperi Kotkaniemi.

Weise had two assists, one shot, four hits and one blocked shot over 9:10 of ice time in Saturday's 5-4 shootout win over the Golden Knights.
The Canadiens have been in the offensive doldrums the last few weeks, but they got depth scoring from their fourth line Saturday. Weise set up both goals by Nick Cousins, which may not come as a shock when considering the two played together in Philadelphia. The assists give Weise three points (all assists) in nine games since his call-up from AHL Laval. With Montreal heading to its bye week, the expectation is that both Jonathan Drouin (wirst) and Paul Byron (knee) could return for the team's next game, Jan. 27, at home against Washington. Add in the potential return of Brendan Gallagher (head) and it's clear to see Weise's stay in the NHL may have ended with Saturday's two-point night.

Weise recorded an assist in Monday's 2-0 win over the Flames.
The helper on Jordan Weal's first-period tally was Weise's first point in 15 games to start his second stint with the Canadiens, dating back to last season. The 31-year-old winger has supplied 16 hits and seven PIM in six outings this year, but it's unlikely he'll do enough on the scoresheet to merit fantasy attention.

Weise was acquired by the Canadiens for the playoff drive last season but played just nine games and was held out of the final 13 contests as a healthy scratch. He enjoyed his most productive NHL seasons as a member of the Canadiens in 2014 and 2015, but he was not a fit in this latest iteration. Weise, who was recently acquired from the Flyers, was active in the first game since being recalled from AHL Laval. He's part of a reconstituted fourth line that coach Claude Julien hopes brings a bit of scoring depth to the club and prevents opponents from scoring. The Canadiens revamped their fourth line over the weekend, trading for Weise (from Philadelphia) and Nate Thompson (from Los Angeles). That duo replaced Kenny Agostino and Michael Chaput. The flurry of activity happened immediately following Saturday's loss to Toronto, in which Montreal's fourth line allowed the Leafs' first two goals. The original trio hadn't scored since since Dec. 29, a span of 18 games. The Habs hope Weise and Thompson can improve the fourth line.
