David Desharnais: Switching KHL clubs
Desharnais is set to join Canadian coach Bob Hartley with Avangard Omsk for the 2018-19 campaign, Jean-Francois Chaumont of Le Journal de Montreal reports.
Desharnais had signed with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl, but the two sides agreed to terminate his deal. Unless he has a phenomenal season in Russia, it seems unlikely the center will make his way back to the NHL.

Desharnais won't play Saturday against the Hurricanes since he's feeling the effects of a shot that hit his wrist during Friday's action against the Lightning.
Desharnais is a crafty pivot who's often deployed on the man advantage, but his absence Saturday gives the Rangers yet another reason to continue deploying prospect Lias Andersson, who went seventh overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. Still, there's no indication that Desharnais' injury is more than a day-to-day issue.

Rangers' David Desharnais: Will play Monday
Desharnais (kidney stones) came out during warmups for Monday's game against Carolina, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports, and will draw into the lineup per Colin Stephenson of Newsday.
Even with the painful condition, the veteran is planning on toughing it out and will skate on the fourth line. His playing time could very well be limited, but he'll head out on the ice in the hunt for his first goal since Feb. 6.

Desharnais will not be available for Saturday's game due to issues with kidney stones, Brett Cyrgalis of the New York Post reports.
Desharnais will surrender his spot in Saturday's lineup to Peter Holland, who will center the fourth line alongside Cody McLeod and Paul Carey. This likely won't be a long-term issue, but the Rangers will be without the veteran pivot -- who owns 27 points in 64 games this season -- for at least one matchup. When healthy, Desharnais could be considered for a cheap daily lineup option with his occasional presence on the power play and his better-than-normal production out of a bottom-six role.

Rangers' David Desharnais: Apparent goal disallowed on kick
Desharnais fired two shots in 13:59 of ice time (2:14 on the power play) in Thursday's 3-0 loss to the Islanders.
Desharnais had the puck deflect in off his leg for an Islanders goal early in the third period, then had an apparent tally of his own overturned after replay determined he used a distinct kicking motion. The diminutive center's minus-1 rating in this one dropped his season mark to minus-11, as the Rangers team he joined for this campaign appears to be a cut below most recent editions.

Desharnais snapped a nine-game goal drought in this one, continuing a recent upward trend that's seen him post three points in the last four games after being held to one point over the previous nine. The diminutive center is making a push for his fourth career 40-point season but not much more.

Rangers' David Desharnais: Flips on goal light
Desharnais found the back of the net in Friday's 3-2 shootout road loss to the Red Wings.
The Canadian pivot is only averaging 13:39 of ice time per contest, albeit with nearly two minutes on the man advantage. His goal Friday was a 5-on-5 tally, and he'll need to go on a serious tear to record his first 20-goal campaign. It's probably safe to leave Desharnais on the virtual waiver wire in most season-long settings, but his most recent performance reminds us that he can be a sneaky value play in DFS formats from time to time.

Desharnais registered two assists through 14:09 of ice time during Tuesday's 4-1 win over Anaheim.
The pair of helpers has Desharnais up to a goal and eight assists through his past 10 games. However, he's returned to a depth role with Mika Zibanejad back in the lineup, so Desharnais will have difficulty maintaining a similar scoring pace moving forward. Still, it's definitely worth noting that the 31-year-old center is capable of providing serviceable offensive numbers for fleeting stretches when skating in a scoring role.

Desharnais collected three assists through 14:58 of ice time during Tuesday's 5-4 loss to Florida.
With Mika Zibanejad (upper body) out of action Tuesday, Desharnais slotted in between Chris Kreider and Pavel Buchnevich, and the trio combined for three goals. It's unlikely this outing does much to boost Desharnais' limited fantasy value for the long term, but it's not out of the question to suggest the veteran will provide a fleeting uptick for the duration of Zibanejad's absence. It's a situation to keep tabs on at the very least.

The former Hab is scoreless with a minus-3 rating and zero shots on goal in his past three contests, so the decision doesn't come as a complete surprise. Desharnais' absence makes room for Paul Carey, who's scored two points in a 40-game NHL career.

After missing the scoresheet in the first five games of the campaign, Desharnais now has a goal and two helpers in his past two outings. He's bounced around the depth chart a bit too much to be counted on in most settings. However, the veteran has clearly established some quick chemistry with J.T. Miller and Chris Kreider on the second line, and Desharnais' fantasy value would spike if he locked himself into the role for a prolonged stretch.

Rangers' David Desharnais: Agrees to deal with Rangers
Desharnais agreed to a contract with the Rangers on Tuesday, David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period reports.
Desharnais split last season between Montreal and Edmonton after a late-February trade sent him to the Oilers. Currently 30 years old, there's no guarantee the center will be able to secure a spot on the NHL roster when the season begins.

Desharnais scored the overtime winner and added an assist in Thursday's 4-3 Game 5 triumph over San Jose.
Desharnais' goal 18:15 into overtime was only made possible by his clutch assist on Oscar Klefbom's game-tying goal with 2:46 to play in regulation. The trade acquisition from Montreal was an unlikely hero after contributing just one shot without a point through the series' first four games.
