Jason Garrison: Inks deal with foreign club
Garrison signed a contract with Djurgardens IF of Sweden on Monday.
Garrison's stint with the Blackhawks -- his sixth NHL team -- didn't go over well, as he was waived unconditionally last Wednesday. It appears that Garrison's NHL career will conclude with the defenseman having compiled 49 goals and 111 assists over 555 games.

Jason Garrison: Waived unconditionally
The Blackhawks placed Garrison on unconditional waivers Wednesday, Scott Powers of The Athletic reports.
The Blackhawks have a logjam at defense, so there's no reason to keep Garrison around, as he'd only take ice time away from their youngsters in the AHL. Once his contract is terminated, Garrison will be free to sign with another NHL club, but it remains to be seen if any organization will express interest in bringing in the 34-year-old vet.

Blackhawks' Jason Garrison: Clears waivers, bound for AHL
Garrison cleared waivers Tuesday, Charlie Roumeliotis of NBC Sports Chicago reports, relaying from Blackhawks GM Stan Bowman that the defenseman will head to AHL Rockford.
Garrison could have served as the seventh defenseman for the Blackhawks following news that Brandon Davidson will miss 6-to-8 weeks following leg surgery, but evidently, that won't come to fruition. Once a valuable blueliner with 30-odd-point upside, Garrison has faded into obscurity in the fantasy realm.

Garrison -- who was just recently acquired via trade from Edmonton -- may not be headed down to the minors right away, as the club waits for Brandon Davidson (leg) to return. Whether the 33-year-old Garrison is shipped down as soon as he clears will go a long way toward determining when Davidson might be back.

The decision to sign Garrison was likely swayed by the injuries to Kris Russell (undisclosed) and Adam Larsson (back) -- both are questionable for Opening Night on Saturday against New Jersey. Once upon a time Garrison scored 16 goals in a season, but those days are long behind him. Last year, the 33-year-old was a Golden Knight, but he only played eight games with the big club. Otherwise, the defenseman was down in the AHL plying his trade. It seems plausible that Garrison will grab a role with the Oilers, but even if he does there isn't much fantasy upside here. He's clearly on the downswing of his career.

Prior to this season, the last time Garrison had played in the minors was back in 2009-10, when he represented the Rochester Americans -- a club formerly affiliated with the Panthers. He's appeared in 31 games for the Wolves, though, adding four goals and 14 assists, and the emergence of defenseman Shea Theodore has rendered Garrison little more than a depth option for the nascent franchise. There's reason to believe that Jon Merrill (undisclosed) is on the verge of returning, as this transaction involving Garrison wouldn't make much sense otherwise.
