Eric Gelinas: Inks deal to play in Russia
Gelinas signed a contract with Slovan Bratislava of the KHL on Thursday, TSN reports.
Gelinas entered the NHL in 2009 as New Jersey's second-round (54th overall) draft choice. Despite the early selection, the 6-foot-4, 215-pound blueliner only recorded 14 goals and 41 assists over 189 career contests between the Devils and Avalanche.

Canadiens' Eric Gelinas: Handed minor-league deal
Gelinas signed a one-year contract with the Laval Rocket, Montreal's AHL affiliate, Arpon Basu of The Athletic Montreal reports.
A second-round pick in 2009, Gelinas showed a lot of promise early in his career with New Jersey, scoring seven goals and 29 points over the course of 60 contests in 2013-14. Since then, however, Gelinas has lost his way, scoring seven goals and 26 points in the 128 games since -- resulting in Colorado declining to tender him a qualifying offer following the conclusion of the 2016-17 campaign. Gelinas has a huge shot and has proven to be a power play weapon in the past, so it's certainly within the realm of possibility for him to earn another NHL contract.

Canadiens' Eric Gelinas: Lands PTO with Habs
Gelinas signed a professional tryout agreement with the Canadiens on Tuesday, TSN reports.
The depth defenseman was not tendered a qualifying offer by the Avalanche, so he became an unrestricted free agent July 1. However, even with a change of scenery, it would be an extremely deep reach to go out and get Gelinas for your virtual squad; between the Devils and Avalanche, he's provided only 14 goals and 41 assists over 189 career games at the NHL level.

Eric Gelinas: Fails to receive qualifying offer
Gelinas wasn't extended a qualifying offer from the Avalanche and will become an unrestricted free agent, Renaud Lavoie of the Montreal Journal reports.
Gelinas saw action in 27 games with the Avalanche during the 2016 campaign, notching one point, 32 hits and 16 blocked shots in limited playing time. He'll be free to negotiate with other teams once free agency opens at the start of July.

The Avalanche assigned Gelinas to AHL San Antonio on Friday.
The Avalanche waived Gelinas last Thursday, but decided to keep him with the big club after he went unclaimed. Tyson Barrie (lower body) has missed Colorado's last three games, but he appears to be nearing a return to game action, so the Avs are no longer in need of Gelinas' services as a seventh defenseman. The 25-year-old blueliner will likely remain in the minors unless Colorado is once again in need of reinforcements on the blue line later this season.

This move suggests Erik Johnson (leg) may be nearing a return to game action. The Avalanche may opt to keep Gelinas with the big club if he passes through waivers unclaimed, but with just one assist in 26 games this season, the blueliner remains safely off the fantasy radar in all formats.

The rearguard suited up for the last four games but will again head to the press box after failing to record a point during that span. In fact, Gelinas has just a single assist in 17 games this season while averaging a paltry 12:17 of ice time for one of the league's worst teams, so it doesn't appear he'll be relevant for fantasy purposes anytime soon.

Gelinas was scratched again in Monday's 3-2 overtime win over the Blue Jackets.
The 25-year-old has only gotten into seven games this season and hasn't done much while averaging 12:30 of ice time, recording a single assist, six PIM, nine shots on goal, three blocked shots and three hits. Considering his limited production across every major stat category and the amount of time Gelinas spends in the press box, he's one of the last defensemen on NHL rosters you should be turning to for fantasy purposes.

The 25-year-old managed just six points in 40 contests with the Devils and Avalanche last season, so he's not likely to be on many fantasy radars at this stage of his career. Gelinas did, however, put up 29 points in 60 games with New Jersey back in 2013-14, so it's conceivable that he could offer some value in the right situation.

Gelinas has seen the ice once since early February where he recorded just under 11-minutes of ice time against the Wild. Tuesday's matchup will mark the 24-year-old's second contest with the Avalanche since being traded at the deadline. It has been a disappointing season for the defenseman as he has register a paltry six points in 35 competitions this year and offers limited fantasy value given his lack of production.

Gelinas' back is still causing him issues, and he will not dress again Saturday against the Predators.
Gelinas hasn't produced much even when healthy, so his status shouldn't worry those playing fantasy much. His next chance to play now comes Monday against the Coyotes, but there's no guarantee he'll be available then either. Expect another update on Gelinas when he's slated to rejoin the lineup, but Andrew Bodnarchuk should continue drawing into for him in the meantime.

Andrew Bodnarchuk will draw into the lineup Thursday against Florida in Gelinas' absence, who will hope to return to action Saturday against the Predators.
