Zach Sill: Bound for Europe
Sill penned a contract with HC Sparta Praha of the Czech league on Monday.
Despite 93 games under his belt, Sill has been unable to earn a shot with the Capitals, having last played in the NHL in 2015-16. The 30-year-old has just five goals in those appearances -- split between Pittsburgh, Toronto and Washington -- so it's hard to imagine another club will give him a shot. More likely than not, the center has played his last games in the NHL, but will continue his professional career abroad.

Capitals' Zach Sill: Waived by Washington
The Capitals waived Sill on Tuesday.
The 29-year-old forward only notched 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) in 67 games with AHL Hershey last season, so this move doesn't come as much of a surprise. If Sill goes unclaimed, he'll be assigned to Washington's AHL affiliate, where he'll likely spend the entire 2017-18 campaign.

With Alex Ovechkin set to miss Tuesday's game against the Panthers due to a league-mandated suspension for missing the All-Star game and Marcus Johansson (upper body) dealing with an injury, the Capitals need an extra body in their forward ranks, although it's unclear if Sill will actually get any playing time while he's up. He has two goals and nine points in 33 games in the minors this season.

Sill has been helping to fill the void left by Jay Beagle (hand) after he went on the injured list. With the signing of Mike Richards earlier in January, there is a logjam for fourth line duty in DC and with Sill approaching waiver eligibility, the Caps decided to send him back to AHL Hershey, where he has two goals and nine points in 30 games this season. Sill has a goal in seven games with the Capitals.

His first point with the Capitals, Sill made a triumphant return from a two-game suspension with the goal.
