Stalberg announced his retirement from professional hockey Friday.
Stalberg appeared in 488 games with six different teams over eight seasons during his time in the NHL, racking up 82 goals and 168 points over that span. The Swedish winger then headed overseas to finish his career, playing for Zug EV and Fribourg-Gotteron HC of the Swiss-A league, Omsk Avangard of the KHL and Skelleftea AIK of the SHL over four seasons.

Viktor Stalberg: Signs with Swiss club
Stalberg (abdomen) signed a two-year contract with EV Zug in Switzerland on Tuesday, TSN reports.
Stalberg posted 16 points in 75 games in Ottawa and Carolina last season. The veteran center seemingly still has the skills to play in the NHL, but he may have been getting tired of being a constant suitcase between the minors and various NHL clubs.

Stalberg is versatile and can be used in a number of situations, but he's dealt with a "couple of issues" in these playoffs, and that seems to be reflected in his performance. He posted two points for his only points versus Boston in the quarterfinals, only to follow that up with a minus-5 rating and goose eggs in the subsequent six-game series against the Blueshirts. Anything can happen in the postseason, but we're not so bullish on Stalberg, given the circumstances.
