  • Mike Kostka: Heading overseas

Kostka inked a deal with Skelleftea AIK of the Swedish Hockey League on Sept. 1, TSN reports.

After 10 professional seasons and 85 NHL games, the former UMass-Amherst Minuteman has decided to try to rejuvenate his career in Sweden. Kostka has proven to be a productive player at the AHL level, recording 267 points in 517 games, and he'll be hoping that his game translates better to Europe's larger ice surfaces.

  • Flames' Mike Kostka: Heads west

The Senators have traded Kostka along with forward Curtis Lazar to the Flames for blueliner Jyrki Jokipakka and a second-round draft pick, TSN.ca reports.

Kostka, who did not see any action with Ottawa this season, does have 85 NHL games under his belt, so he could find his way into the Flames' lineup at some point. In 46 games with AHL Binghamton, the 31-year-old blueliner has logged one goal and 12 points.

  • Senators' Mike Kostka: Needs to clear waivers before AHL Binghamton stint

Kostka was assigned to AHL Binghamton on Wednesday and will have to clear waivers Thursday to make it official, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

Kostka made 15 appearances last season with Ottawa, mostly due to the fact that they were suffering in the injury department. The blueliner dropped just one helper during his campaign, and now heading toward 31 years of age, he's not expected to make much noise moving forward.

  • Senators' Mike Kostka: Rejoins Ottawa

Kostka signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Senators on Friday. The contract is worth $800,000 in the NHL and $325,000 in the minors.

Kostka ended last season with the Senators (15 games), but the overwhelming majority of his season was spent with AHL Binghamton (49 games). Even with the availability of Mark Borowiecki (knee) still unclear to begin the season, Kostka will be on the fringe yet again during his fifth year in the league.

  • Senators' Mike Kostka: Back in action Saturday

Kostka (undisclosed) will return to the lineup Saturday afternoon versus the Flyers, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

The timing is ideal, as the Senators reportedly will be without blueliner Marc Methot (illness) on Saturday. Just like the man he replaces, Kostka brings size to the lineup. However, he lacks NHL experience and thus has an extremely narrow window for success in the fantasy realm.

  • Senators' Mike Kostka: Ruled out Thursday

Kostka is dealing with an undisclosed injury that will prevent him from suiting up Thursday night against the Wild, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

Not much is known on Kostka's injury, with Garrioch simply stating that the defenseman is "banged up." As a result, TSN's Steve Lloyd reports the Sens have called up Ben Harpur from the minors.

  • Senators' Mike Kostka: Finds scoresheet for first time this year

Kostka impacted the scoresheet for the first time this season by registering an assist in Tuesday's 4-2 loss to the Capitals.

Kostka has appeared in just eight games this season after being called up from AHL Binghamton on March 5, averaging 13:08 of ice time in that span. The 30-year-old could see a jump in activity with Dion Phaneuf (lower body) ailing, but with just 21 points in his career, it's unlikely the defenseman will seize this opportunity and produce.

  • Senators' Mike Kostka: Lands on NHL roster Saturday

Kostka was called up from AHL Binghamton early Saturday morning.

Kostka was brought up to the parent club with fellow defenseman Mark Borowiecki (knee) out with a knee injury. Currently, there are seven healthy blueliners on the active roster for the Sens, meaning Kostka isn't a lock to play Saturday night against the Maple Leafs.

  • Senators' Mike Kostka: Heading to AHL Binghamton

Kostka is returning to the AHL following a brief stint with Ottawa.

Kostka has been called up to Ottawa twice, but has not cracked the lineup this season. The defenseman has been somewhat productive for Binghamton, netting a goal and 11 helpers in 23 games. A perennial journeyman, the 30-year-old has yet to stick with an NHL club in his career.

  • Senators' Mike Kostka: Returns to AHL Binghamton

Kostka was reassigned to AHL Binghamton on Sunday.

  • Senators' Mike Kostka: Recalled from minors Saturday

The Senators have recalled Kostka from AHL Binghamton.

Kostka enters the picture since Ottawa is literally hurting on the blue line, with Patrick Wierchioch day-to-day with an upper-body ailment and Chris Phillips (back) still on injured reserve. While Kostka may get a brief dance in the NHL this season, one must realize that he's still getting time in the minors despite debuting in the AHL as far back as 2007-08, making the journeyman largely a non-factor in fantasy leagues despite decent passing skills at the rearguard position.

  • Sens Sign Veteran Blueliner Kostka To Two-Way Deal

Kostka signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Senators on Wednesday. The 29-year-old Kostka made seven appearances for the Rangers last season when injuries compromised their defensive depth, but otherwise spent the majority of his campaign with the club's AHL affiliate in Hartford. Kostka will likely receive a token chance to win a spot as the Sens' seventh defenseman out of training camp, though even if he wins that role, it's one that will likely be bereft of fantasy value.
