  • Cody Goloubef: Released from tryout

Goloubef was cut by the Habs on Friday but will report to AHL Laval on a minor-league-only deal.

Goloubef hasn't appeared in an NHL game since the 21019-20 campaign which he split between Ottawa and Detroit. The defender was always a long shot to break into the 23-man roster for Montreal and was destined to return to the minors with the Rocket. Unless the club signs him to an NHL contract down the road, Goloubef won't be eligible for a call-up.

  • Canadiens' Cody Goloubef: Secures tryout

Goloubef signed a professional tryout agreement with Montreal on Monday, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

Goloubef spent the entire 2020-21 campaign in the minors with AHL Belleville for which he garnered four goals and two assists in 31 appearances. The University of Wisconsin product was selected by the Blue Jackets in the second round of the 2008 NHL Draft but has only seen action in 160 NHL contests in which he has generated three goals and 22 helpers. Even if Goloubef does earn a deal from the Habs, he is unlikely to secure regular minutes in the lineup and figures to split time between the NHL and AHL.

  • Red Wings' Cody Goloubef: Spare blueliner for Detroit

Goloubef has only drawn into two games with the Red Wings since his waiver claim (from the Senators) on Feb. 21.

An immigration issue caused Goloubef to get a late start with Detroit, but he's been used sparingly anyway. Selected by Columbus in the second round of the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, Goloubef has compiled 25 points (three goals, 22 assists) between four clubs and 160 games played.

Goloubef was claimed off waivers by Detroit on Friday but won't face the Flames. His next opportunity to suit up for his new club will be Tuesday, at home against New Jersey. A limited offensive skillset makes Goloubef a non-factor in fantasy, so no need to monitor this situation.

  • Senators' Cody Goloubef: Waived by Ottawa

Ottawa placed Goloubef on waivers Thursday, James Mirtle of The Athletic reports.

Aside from Goloubef, the Senators only have five healthy defensemen on their roster, so he'll almost certainly remain with the team for Thursday's game against the Jets. The 30-year-old Canadian has notched two points in 23 games this campaign.

  • Red Wings' Cody Goloubef: Claimed by Detroit

The Red Wings claimed Goloubef off waivers Friday, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.

Goloubef has bounced between leagues while with the Senators this season, but he may have a more regular role as a member of Detroit's depleted defensive corps. Nonetheless, he's only picked up seven points in 62 games over the past three campaigns, so there's no reason for him to be on fantasy owners' radars.

  • Senators' Cody Goloubef: Skates in back-to-back games

Goloubef followed his first goal of the season with increased ice time in Sunday's win over Dallas, skating 13 minutes in the contest.

Goloubef is in the lineup for as long as Mark Borowiecki (ankle) sits on the shelf, which won't do anything to help fantasy owners. With just two points on the season and one of those coming over the weekend, there's no reason to have Goloubef anywhere near your roster in any format.

  • Senators' Cody Goloubef: Tallies assist in OT loss

Goloubef collected his first point of the 2019-20 season in a 4-3 loss to the Devils on Sunday.

The 30-year-old defenseman had been shut out of the points column over his first 12 games of the season, but Goloubef opened his 2019-20 account with an assist on Nick Paul's fourth goal of the season. The veteran blueliner also dished out four hits and blocked four shots. Overall, Sunday's loss was an eventful day for Goloubef, but he remains irrelevant from a fantasy perspective.

Goloubef returned to practice Friday and will be available for game action when needed, but he's been a healthy scratch more often than not this season, so there's no telling when he might crack the lineup next. The veteran blueliner can be ignored in all fantasy formats.

Goloubef (undisclosed) returned to practice Friday, TSN 1200 Ottawa reports.

Goloubef is clearly making progress in his recovery, but there's still no timetable for his return to game action. Either way, the 30-year-old defender is nothing more than a depth option for the Senators and won't be a viable fantasy option in 2019-20.
