Patrick Wiercioch: Headed for KHL
Wiercioch secured a contract with Dinamo Minsk of the KHL on Monday.
Wiercioch spent the 2017-18 campaign playing with AHL Utica but never earned his way into the Canucks' lineup. The 27-year-old will get his first taste of European hockey. In his 268 NHL outings, the blueliner snagged 16 goals and 58 helpers. It seems unlikely at this point that Wiercioch will be adding to his NHL stat line in the future.

Canucks' Patrick Wiercioch: Demoted to minors
Wiercioch was reassigned to AHL Utica on Monday.
Wiercioch has been bouncing back and forth between the NHL and AHL all season and when he has been in Vancouver, has served exclusively as a healthy scratch. The constant shuffling has also limited the blueliner to just two outings in the minors for the Comets in which he has tallied one goal and two PIM. The 27-year-old will likely continue to log frequent flyer miles between clubs for the rest of the season.

Canucks' Patrick Wiercioch: Sent up to NHL
Wiercioch was recalled from AHL Utica on Monday, Dan Murphy of Sportsnet reports.
After spending just two games in the minors, Wiercioch will return to the NHL. He's consistently logged 50-to-60 games in each of the last four seasons, but will likely serve as a depth defensemen as Alexander Edler (lower body) and Troy Stecher (lower body) deal with injuries.

Canucks' Patrick Wiercioch: Returns to minors
Wiercioch was sent back down to AHL Utica on Saturday.
He was originally called up while Erik Gudbranson served his one-game suspension for boarding, but Gudbranson will be eligible to play in Sunday's road game against the Red Wings. Wiercioch has never played in more than 57 games over a single season, proving that he's little more than a spare defenseman to shore up a tough position when injuries threaten the parent club.

Wiercioch will be placed on waivers Wednesday.
The move to wave Wiercioch was necessitated by Vancouver's decision to bring in Derrick Pouliot via trade. If he goes unclaimed, the 27-year-old Wiercioch will likely be reassigned to the minors, where he last played in 2012-13 when with AHL Binghamton.

Canucks' Patrick Wiercioch: Signs with new club on Canada Day
Wiercioch joined the Canucks on Saturday upon signing a one-year, one-way contract valued at $650,000.
Canucks GM Jim Benning issued his own a scouting report on the incoming blueliner. "Patrick has excellent mobility for a player his size and possesses a big shot from the point," said Benning. "He'll add to our depth on the blue line and we're excited to give him the opportunity to play for his hometown team." The 26-year-old from British Columbia spent parts of five seasons with the Senators before joining the Avalanche last campaign. He's collected 74 points (16 goals, 58 assists) with a minus-5 rating over 268 career games.

Patrick Wiercioch: Allowed to walk by Avalanche
Wiercioch wasn't extended a qualifying offer by the Avalanche, making him eligible for unrestricted free agency Saturday, The Denver Post reports.
The blueliner got into 57 games last year -- his first in Colorado after spending his first five NHL seasons with Ottawa -- and recorded 12 points to go with a hideous minus-18 rating. Wiercioch didn't offer any redeeming stats (52 hits, 57 blocks, 62 shots) to make up for the lack of offensive production, so regardless of where he signs this summer, he'll still be miles off the fantasy radar.

Wiercioch missed just one game to the mystery ailment and is projected to slot onto Colorado's third defensive pairing Sunday. The 26-year-old has netted just one goal in the last seven games, making him undesirable at the moment.

Despite the lackluster offensive production, the veteran defenseman's 41 hits and 48 blocked shots, while modest, have him on pace for new career highs. That said, there's not much to see here from a fantasy perspective, so Wiercioch is probably best left to the waiver wire for the remainder of the season.

Wiercioch has just a single point in his last 22 contests, dating back to Nov. 26.
The former Senator also has also skated to an ugly minus-15 during that span, which isn't overly surprising considering the Avalanche are dead-last in the league in goal differential and have had a horrible season. With nine points (none on the power play) and not much else to provide value from a fantasy perspective (47 shots, 35 hits, 39 blocked shots, 19 PIM) Wiercioch can safely be left on the waiver wire in the vast majority of settings.

Avalanche's Patrick Wiercioch: Failed to record point in December
Wiercioch didn't record a point in December and is mired in a 15-game point drought.
The former Senator actually started off the season relatively well, putting up eight points in his first 17 games. However, Wiercioch has fallen off substantially since then, which is assuredly thanks in part to the struggles of the Avs as a whole, as they currently sit last in the Central Division and own the league's worst goal differential at a horrendous minus-48. That said, even those in deeper leagues would be wise to steer clear of the 26-year-old for the foreseeable future given the bleak outlook for improvement in Denver.

Avalanche's Patrick Wiercioch: Posts multi-point game Tuesday
Wiercioch scored a goal, chipped in a helper and went plus-3 in Tuesday's 4-1 win over the visiting Kings.
The veteran blueliner opened the scoring 1:10 into the second frame before grabbing the secondary helper on Rene Bourque's tally 22 seconds later. Wiercioch had been held off the scoresheet for seven straight contests while skating to a minus-5 -- which led to him serving as a healthy scratch for a couple games -- so it's nice to see the former Senator produce in a tough matchup. He now has seven points, 18 shots on goal, 15 hits and 18 blocked shots this season -- a set of numbers best suited to deeper formats.

Wiercioch garnered an assist in a 6-5 win over Dallas on Saturday. It was his first point with the Avalanche.
The former Sens blueliner signed with the Avs in the offseason after struggling to the tune of just five points in 52 games with Ottawa last year. Wiercioch never really panned out as "the other guy" on a defensive pairing with superstar Erik Karlsson, topping out at 23 points in 2013-14 before dropping off considerably in the two seasons since. Furthermore, he doesn't offer much else of use for fantasy purposes, either (56 shots on goal, 0:22 of average power-play time last year), so owners should look elsewhere when bargain hunting on the waiver wire.

Wiercioch saw a major dip in production last season, as he failed to score a single goal and only contributed 5 assists after averaging 18.3 assists over the previous three seasons. It was expected that the 25-year-old would not be back with the Senators next season, but he still should draw interest from teams in the free agency. However, if Wiercioch's production is a repeat of last season, then his fantasy potential will be limited.

Senators' Patrick Wiercioch: Doubtful that Ottawa makes offer to blueliner
Wiercioch is not expected to receive an offer from the Senators when he becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.
This comes as no surprise, as the blueliner was shopped at the trade deadline and will most likely receive the same treatment before ultimately being allowed to walk in free agency. After an unproductive season filled with injuries -- including a right shoulder ailment that held the defenseman out for 15 of the last 16 games -- general manager Pierre Dorion was believed to have told Wiercioch in his exit meeting that the 25-year-old was doubtful to return to Ottawa, which all but seals his fate. The 2008 second-round pick should receive interest in the market, although five points in his 2015-16 campaign is not promising in terms of potential fantasy value wherever he lands.
