Based on the terms of his new deal, Hofmann should be expected to receive his unconditional release by the Blue Jackets in the coming days. The 29-year-old winger appeared in 24 games for Columbus this year in which he tallied two goals, five assists and 23 hits while averaging 12:30 of ice time. The Hurricanes traded Hofmann to the Blue Jackets for a 2022 seventh-round pick Saturday, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports.
Hofmann was drafted by the Hurricanes in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Draft, but he has never played in North America. According to Aaron Portzline of The Athletic, he'll remain with EV Zug of the Swiss A League for the rest of the season.
