Blue Jackets' Gregory Hofmann: Pens European deal
Hofmann (personal) agreed to terms on a one-year contract with Swiss club EV Zug on Tuesday. Based on the terms of his new deal, Hofmann should be expected to receive his unconditional release by the Blue Jackets in the coming days. The 29-year-old winger appeared in 24 games for Columbus this year in which he tallied two goals, five assists and 23 hits while averaging 12:30 of ice time. Hofmann (personal) was suspended permanently by the Blue Jackets on Monday. Hofmann was given the option to step away from play for personal reasons and due to his decision was suspended by Columbus, per Aaron Portzline of The Athletic. Hofmann scored the game-winning goal in Wednesday's 3-0 victory over the Jets. He finished an odd-man rush with Max Domi, wiring home his second goal of the season past Connor Hellebuyck. Hofmann has responded well to being a healthy scratch Nov. 20 against the Golden Knights, picking up three points in two games with six shots on net and a plus-4 rating since returning to the lineup, and the Swiss rookie is showing some intriguing chemistry with Domi.... Hofmann picked up two assists in Monday's 7-4 win over the Sabres. The Swiss League veteran is still getting his feet wet in the NHL as a 29-year-old rookie, but Hofmann may have found a home on the Jackets' third line alongside Jack Roslovic and Max Domi. Hofmann had a goal and an assist with two shots and two PIM in Monday's 4-1 win over Dallas. The first-year NHLer pocketed up his first career goal midway through the second period, pouncing on a Dallas turnover and leaning into a wrist shot to give Columbus a 2-1 lead. The goal held up as the eventual game-winner for Hofmann, who also assisted on Oliver Bjorkstrand's goal in the opening period. Blue Jackets' Gregory Hofmann: Traded to Columbus
The Hurricanes traded Hofmann to the Blue Jackets for a 2022 seventh-round pick Saturday, Michael Smith of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Hofmann was drafted by the Hurricanes in the fourth round of the 2011 NHL Draft, but he has never played in North America.
