  • Jimmy Hayes: Passes away at 31

Hayes passed away at the age of 31, Sportsnet reported Monday.

The older brother of Kevin Hayes, Jimmy appeared in 334 NHL contests between 2011-18. The Blackhawks, which is the first team Hayes played for in the NHL, issued the following statement: "We are heartbroken to learn of the passing of Jimmy Hayes. His warm personality made an immediate impact in the locker room and with our fans. We're proud of the memories he made in Chicago, including making his NHL debut in 2011. Sending our thoughts and prayers to his family."

  • Penguins' Jimmy Hayes: Secures two-way deal with Penguins

Hayes signed a one-year, two-way contract with Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Hayes scored just five goals and 14 points in the last two seasons but posted 32 goals and 64 points in two years prior to that. The 28-year-old Massachusetts native will have to fight for an NHL roster spot with Pittsburgh's deep forward group.

  • Devils' Jimmy Hayes: Limited ice time after January

Hayes skated in 33 games in the 2017-18 season, scoring three goals and collecting six assists while averaging 11:53 of ice time.

Unfortunately for Hayes, 23 of his 33 games came before Dec. 16, and he didn't appear in any of New Jersey's last 20 games save for the season finale against Washington, when the playoffs were already clinched. Nonetheless, he was able to lay the body when he was on the ice, notching 50 hits, and wasn't much of a defensive liability with a minus-2 on the year.

  • Devils' Jimmy Hayes: Back at top level following conditioning stint

Hayes, who has completed his conditioning assignment, received a call-up from AHL Albany on Thursday.

This news won't shake up the fantasy world, as Hayes only has nine points through 26 games this season, despite starting out in a power-play role. However, he could be depended on more heavily with Marcus Johansson (head) and Brian Gibbons (thumb) currently on injured reserve.

  • Devils' Jimmy Hayes: On conditioning loan

Hayes was reassigned to AHL Binghamton for conditioning on Friday,

Hayes has averaged under 13 minutes per game this season, plus he's only appeared in three of the last 15 contests. There's hardly any incentive to be rostering him in the fantasy arena, but there's a real chance that he comes back stronger once the conditioning stint is in the books.

  • Devils' Jimmy Hayes: Struggling to find ice

Hayes was a healthy scratch during a 5-4 shootout loss to the Islanders on Sunday.

This marked the ninth straight game that Hayes has found himself in the press box, and he hasn't played since Dec. 15. When Hayes has been in the lineup he's been productive scoring nine points (three goals, six assists) in 23 games, already besting his five point effort he put up in Boston last season. However unless injuries arise in the Garden State it seems unlikely Hayes will find a consistent role with the Devils' deep forward group, especially with veteran Drew Stafford being a healthy scratch as well recently.

  • Devils' Jimmy Hayes: Subbing in Saturday

Hayes, a frequent bench warmer, will play Saturday against the Coyotes, Devils' beat writer Amanda Stein reports.

The former Bruin will give Pavel Zacha a breather, but Hayes is a mere depth option for the (15-6-4) Devils.

  • Devils' Jimmy Hayes: Scores, adds helper

Hayes chipped in a goal and an assist in Friday's 5-4 shootout win over Ottawa.

Hayes stepped up with his first multi-point game of the year, which is an encouraging sign. However, he's got just three points this season, so he'll have to show much more consistency before he can be trusted for offense.

  • Devils' Jimmy Hayes: Moved up to second line in practice

Hayes skated on a line with Nico Hischier and Marcus Johansson in practice Sunday, The Bergen Record reports.

It seems coach John Hynes is experimenting with his lines given Kyle Palmeri's lower-body injury. Hischier was able to drive play and record six shots in his debut, and Hayes would certainly receive more offensive-zone time in an elevated role than he did on the third line. If the 27-year-old can build chemistry with Hischier and Johansson and stick on their line, Hayes could end up taking a run at the 30-point plateau for the second time in his career.

  • Devils' Jimmy Hayes: Seals place in New Jersey lineup

Hayes has earned himself a one-year, one-way contract worth $700,000, Bob McKenzie of TSN reports.

After a disastrous season with Boston in 2016-17 when he scored just two goals and five points over 58 games, the only offer that Hayes had this offseason was a PTO with New Jersey. Hayes has ability, which he showed during a stellar college career with Boston College and when he scored 19 goals in 2014-15, but he gets complacent with his play far too easily. New Jersey will be hoping that Hayes continues to play with a fire under him even after earning his new deal.

  • Devils' Jimmy Hayes: Hoping to earn permanent deal

Hayes will attend the Devils' training camp on a professional tryout agreement, Mark Divver of The Providence Journal reports.

Hayes was held to just 58 games for the Bruins last season -- partly due to injury, but he also spent a good portion of time as a healthy scratch. When he was in the lineup, the winger averaged a paltry 9:14 of ice time and registered a mere five points. New Jersey has several young players fighting for playing time -- including Brandon Gignac and Nick Lappin -- so it figures to be an uphill battle for Hayes to secure a permanent contract.

  • Jimmy Hayes: Buyout on tap

The Bruins have placed Hayes on waivers for the purpose of a buyout, the team's official site reports.

Hayes, who was slated to account for a $2.3 million salary cap hit in 2017-18 (the final year of his deal with the B's) will thus count for $566,667 against the cap this season and $866,667 next year. The 6-foot-5, 215-pounder essentially represented all that the Bruins had left from the team's ill-advised decision to deal Tyler Seguin to the Stars in July of 2015. The Boston native showed some goal-scoring upside earlier in his career while with Florida, but his final campaign as a Bruin resulted in just two goals and five points in 58 games. The 27-year-old will now look to re-boot his NHL career elsewhere, with a one-year "prove it" deal likely on tap for him.

  • Bruins' Jimmy Hayes: Not in Game 1 mix

Hayes (lower body) is not in line to suit up for Wednesday's playoff opener against Ottawa.

Hayes has been able to practice of late, so we'll operate under the assumption that he's available to the team as an extra forward and could draw back into the lineup if injuries hit the B's up front. In 58 games this past season, the 6-foot-5, 215-pounder was held to a mere two goals and five points with a minus-3 rating.

  • Bruins' Jimmy Hayes: Won't play Tuesday

Hayes (lower body) won't play Tuesday against the Lightning.

As the B's approach the last three games on their regular-season slate, Hayes' frustrating campaign continues, with the 6-foot-5 forward needing nothing more than to find some momentum in advance of the playoffs. Through 58 games, Hayes has logged just two goals and five points.

  • Bruins' Jimmy Hayes: Won't play Sunday

Hayes (lower body) will miss Sunday's game in Chicago.

The winger was questionable after getting dinged up Saturday and wasn't ready to go for Sunday's afternoon tilt. With only five points in 58 games, fantasy owners should try to avoid him, anyway.

  • Bruins' Jimmy Hayes: Suffers lower-body injury Saturday

Hayes left the game and did not return Saturday against the Panthers, and he is now listed as day-to-day.

This shouldn't affect any fantasy teams, as Hayes averages 9:23 of ice time this season, and only has five points in 57 games. He does make a splash in the physical component, though, dishing out 73 hits this season. He could play Sunday in Chicago, but with that being a noon start time, it's less likely.

  • Bruins' Jimmy Hayes: Questionable Sunday

Hayes (lower body) is considered questionable for Sunday's game against Chicago, Joe Haggerty of CSN New England reports.

The game against the Blackhawks is an early afternoon affair Sunday, so it's not surprising to see Hayes listed as questionable following his injury suffered Saturday. The Bruins have recalled Sean Kuraly from Providence of the American Hockey League.

  • Bruins' Jimmy Hayes: Back in action Saturday

Hayes will be in the lineup for Saturday's game against the Islanders.

Hayes has been a healthy scratch for the Bruins' last three contests, but he'll slot into a bottom-six role for Saturday's tilt, skating with Dominic Moore and Riley Nash on Boston's fourth line. The 27-year-old winger's minimal offensive output -- five points in 54 games this season -- keeps him from being a practical option in season-long leagues.

  • Bruins' Jimmy Hayes: Healthy scratch Saturday

Hayes will watch Saturday's game against the Devils from the press box, CSNNE.com reports.

Hayes will give way to Drew Stafford, who was acquired from the Jets ahead of Wednesday's trade deadline. Both of those players qualify as power forwards, but Stafford can do much more with the puck and Hayes has struggled to the tune of five points and a minus-2 rating in 49 games this season.

  • Bruins' Jimmy Hayes: Reaches milestone in Sunday's win

Hayes posted an assist with a plus-1 rating, a blocked shot and two hits in Sunday's 2-1 overtime win against the Sharks.

The assist was the 100th point of his career. Hayes managed just two goals and an assist over his first 41 games but he has two helpers over the past three outings. His fantasy appeal remains limited to the deepest of formats until he starts to find his way onto the scoresheet with more frequency.
