Kerby Rychel: Joins KHL club
Rychel signed a one-year contract with Neftekhimik (KHL) on Tuesday, Igor Eronko of Sport-Express reports.
Rychel previously agreed to spend the 2019-20 campaign in Sweden with Orebro HK, but left the club due to personal reasons. It appears that a move to the KHL will be better suited for the 24-year-old, though it may not help his chances of returning to the NHL in the future. Drafted by the Blue Jackets with the 19th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, the winger certainly would qualify as a bust at this point, as he's managed just 14 points in 43 games with three different franchises.

Kerby Rychel: Signs overseas
Rychel inked a one-year deal with Swedish club Orebro HK on Sunday.
Rychel appeared in a mere two games for the Flames last season, instead spending the rest of the year in the minors with AHL Stockton. The winger put up solid numbers with the Heat consisting of 23 goals and 20 helpers, but was unable to break into the lineup. With no clear path to the NHL, the 24-year-old will give European hockey a try. If he can produce in Sweden, Rychel could still make his way back to North America.

Kerby Rychel: Not qualified by Flames
Rychel didn't receive a qualifying offer from Calgary, making him an unrestricted free agent.
Rychel suited up in just two NHL games this past campaign, so this news isn't quite surprising. He has, however, racked up 14 points at the NHL level in his career, so he could be a candidate to give you solid production at the AHL level, and receive a call to the big club if warranted for next season.

Flames' Kerby Rychel: Bound for minors
Rychel was reassigned to AHL Stockton on Thursday.
Rychel was demoted in favor of fellow forwards Buddy Robinson and Ryan Lomberg, both of whom could slot into the lineup against the Lightning on Thursday if Sam Bennett (upper body) and James Neal (lower body) are unable to play. The 24-year-old Rychel returns to the Heat, for whom he has racked up 21 points in 25 games this season.

Rychel was waived by the Flames on Wednesday, TSN reports.
This is a procedural move designed to send Rychel to the minors. It's been a wild ride for the first-round draft pick (2013, Columbus), as he's jumped between five minor-league clubs since his draft year. The California native has 14 points (three goals, 11 assists) through 41 games at the top level between the Blue Jackets and Canadiens.

Rychel inked a one-year, two-way deal with the Flames on Monday.
Earlier in the day, Rychel was traded from the Canadiens to the Flames in exchange for Hunter Shinkaruk. This new contract is reportedly for the league minimum as well, and it is expected that the 23-year-old will spent the bulk of the season in the AHL. However, the potential for him to get called up is there. Just don't expect to see Rychel in Calgary when the season begins.

Rychel was acquired by the Flames from the Canadiens in exchange of Hunter Shinkaruk on Monday.
This marks the third trade move for Rychel, who was originally packaged off from Columbus to Toronto, then to Montreal as part of the Tomas Plekanec deal. Selected with the 19th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft, the 23-year-old Rychel has made 41 NHL appearances, including four games for the Habs last season, in which he tallied one goal and one assist. With the Flames, the California native figures to start the year in the minors, but could earn a handful of call-ups during the season.

Canadiens' Kerby Rychel: Scores first in Habs uniform
Rychel had a goal, one shot, five hits and a two-minute minor penalty over 10:14 of ice time in Tuesday's 5-4 overtime loss to the Jets.
Rychel's marker was his first with the Canadiens and his first since January 2016, when he skated for the Blue Jackets. He positioned himself in front of the net and deflected home a Jeff Petry shot from the point. This was his second game since being called from AHL Laval last Friday, and he received a minor promotion: his overall playing time was up thanks to some power-play TOI (:48) and he was moved up to the third line. He also registered five hits for a second straight game. Rychel is playing for a spot on the parent club in 2018-19.

Canadiens' Kerby Rychel: Skates on fourth line in debut
Rychel made his Montreal debut Sunday, recording five hits and two blocked shots over 9:24 of ice time in a 2-1 loss to the Devils.
Rychel made quite a splash for AHL Laval since the organization acquired him from Toronto, scoring eight times in 14 games, but was given a small role in his debut. Good on him for getting physical during his time on ice. That will endear him to coach Claude Julien and may buy him some additional minutes in the final three games of the season.

Canadiens' Kerby Rychel: Debuting Sunday
Rychel, who was called up from AHL Laval on Friday, is expected to make his Montreal debut Sunday night at home against the Devils, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.
The 23-year-old Rychel is a former first-round pick that's with his third organization. He's been very productive for the Rocket since the organization acquired him from Toronto in the Tomas Plekanec deal, scoring eight goals with four assists in 14 games. You've got to believe the Canadiens, who are already eliminated from the playoffs, want to evaluate Rychel for a possible spot on the team in 2018-19. That means he should get enough ice time with which they can assess him properly.

The Canadiens recalled Rychel from AHL Laval on Friday.
Rychel has been quite productive in the minors since being traded to Montreal on Feb. 25, racking up eight goals and 12 points in 14 contests. The 23-year-old winger could make his Canadiens debut as soon as Saturday against Pittsburgh.

Rychel was traded Sunday along with Rinat Valiev and a 2018 second-round pick from Toronto to Montreal, in exchange for Tomas Plekanec and Kyle Baun.
The 23-year-old has been playing for AHL Toronto all season, notching 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) in 55 games, and has spent the majority of his last four seasons in the minors. Rychel has been known to deploy the game of a power forward, and since Montreal has three players on injured reserve at the moment, perhaps he'll get some NHL action if injuries keep piling on.

Rychel was waived by the Leafs on Monday for the purpose of reassignment.
Rychel was a dark-horse candidate to make the Opening Night roster -- especially considering he tallied 19 goals and 33 assists in 73 outings for the Marlies. If the 22-year-old can continue to produce in the minors, he should earn a call-up to the big club sooner rather than later.

Rychel was among 19 cuts from the Leafs' camp Saturday, reports the Toronto Sun.
Rychel profiles a lot like Zach Hyman, the young man who is still in Leafs' camp and who outworked Rychel for a gig with the big club. He's still young and will get a scoring line role with the AHL Marlies. The Leafs are heavy with young talent, so Rychel will need to dig in and really show that he can be a middle-six sandpaper type with decent hands and a non-stop motor in order to earn a job in the next year or so.

Maple Leafs' Kerby Rychel: Dealt to Leafs
Rychel was traded by Columbus to Toronto on Saturday in exchange for Scott Harrington and a conditional fifth-round draft pick.
Rychel essentially was a human boomerang between the Blue Jackets and minor-league affiliate AHL Lake Erie last season, serving as a viable replacement when injuries struck among the parent club's more established forwards. The 19th overall draft pick from 2013 recorded 27 points (six goals, 21 assists) in 37 minor-league games last season and helped the Monsters to their first Calder Cup win in franchise history. He joins a rebuilding Maple Leafs team that selected American prospect Auston Matthews first overall during the draft Friday.

Blue Jackets' Kerby Rychel: Heads back to Lake Erie
Rychel has been sent back to AHL Lake Erie.
Despite averaging just 9:31 of ice time over 32 contests with the Blue Jackets this season, Rychel has posted a respectable nine points (two goals) over that frame. He'll now head back to the AHL club just in time to be eligible for the affiliate's postseason, but there's a chance the 21-year-old winger will rejoin the club again before the season ends.

He pulled it off in just 10:09 of ice time. Rychel has five points in his last five games after getting four in his first 13. He's going to be an effective two-way forward with decent hands, good playmaking and a physical edge. But middle-six will be his ceiling.
