  • Markus Granlund: Headed overseas

Granlund agreed to terms on a contract with KHL club Salavat Yulaev Ufa on Sunday, TSN.ca reports.

Granlund started the 2019-20 campaign on the 23-man roster with Edmonton, but after struggling to produce was waived and shipped down to the minors in late December. The 26-year-old made a few more appearances in the NHL prior to the league going on hiatus, yet he was ultimately limited to just 34 contests in which he logged 10:50 of ice time per game. With his contract up at the end of the season, the center will make the move to the KHL, having last played in Europe back in 2012-13 for Finnish side HIFK Helsinki.

  • Oilers' Markus Granlund: Returned to minors

Granlund was reassigned to AHL Bakersfield on Wednesday.

Granlund's demotion could be an indication that Sam Gagner (undisclosed) will be good to go for Wednesday's matchup with Boston. In 32 NHL outings this year, the 26-year-old Granlund has notched three goals, one helper and 23 shots while logging 11:00 of ice time per game. This likely won't be the last call-up for Granlund before the end of the regular season.

The Oilers waived Granlund for the purpose of reassignment to AHL Bakersfield on Saturday, Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet reports.

Granlund has been a healthy scratch often lately, playing just three of the past eight games. The 26-year-old has just four points over 31 NHL games this season, but perhaps the Oilers are hoping he'll slip through waivers to land in Bakersfield, where he can continue to work on his game.

  • Oilers' Markus Granlund: Point drought at six games

Granlund hasn't registered a point in his last six appearances.

The Finn has picked up six PIM in that span, which comes after a stretch in which he had three goals in four contests. If Granlund can't get the penalties under control, coach Dave Tippett may cycle him out of the lineup for a few games. Such a move would have little impact in fantasy circles -- Granlund has just four points through 27 appearances this season.

  • Oilers' Markus Granlund: Deposits equalizer

Granlund scored the game-tying goal in Sunday's 4-3 shootout win over the Coyotes.

The Oilers entered the third period down by a goal, but Granlund's third tally in his last four games tied the score at three. The recent goal binge has Granlund up to four points in 21 appearances. He had 22 points in 77 contests with the Canucks last season, but he'll need to be elevated off the fourth line to sustain his recent success for any extended length of time.

Granlund scored his first goal of the campaign in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Sharks.

Granlund's tally was the first of three for the Oilers in the opening period. It's the second point of the year for the Finn, who has added 12 shots on goal and 12 blocked shots in 18 appearances. The goal may buy a little more time in the lineup for the 26-year-old.

Granlund has served as a healthy scratch in three of the last seven games.

Granlund's role is inconsistent under coach Dave Tippett. The forward has just one assist, 11 shots on goal and 11 blocked shots in 17 games this season. Given the lack of production, it's not a surprise when he ends up watching from the press box.

  • Oilers' Markus Granlund: Still searching for first point

Granlund has no points through six games this year.

Granlund did enough to make the Oilers out of training camp, but that hasn't translated into regular season success yet. The Finnish forward's best performance was a 32-point campaign in 2016-17 with the Canucks. He could lose playing time to Gaetan Haas if his struggles persist much longer.

The center put up 12 goals, 10 helpers and 123 shots last season while averaging 15:03 of ice time. Granlund was a regular in Vancouver's lineup this season, notching 12 goals and 22 points in 77 contests, but the Canucks clearly believe that his production can be replaced by a younger, cheaper option. The 26-year-old Finn should be able to find a new home with a forward-needy NHL club once free agency opens.
