Pietila was promoted from AHL San Diego on Saturday, Elliott Teaford of The Orange County Register reports.
Pietila has recorded 14 points in 32 AHL games this season. It's unclear if he'll suit up for any NHL games as the Ducks don't play again until Jan. 27. The 26-year-old appeared in 19 NHL games with the Devils last season, recording one assist in the process.

Pietila signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Ducks on Tuesday.
Pietila has some NHL experience, appearing in 38 career games for the Devils, half of which came last season. He has only four points, though, so chances are he won't make the big club in Anaheim unless injuries strike.

Pietila was waived by the Devils on Friday, Chris Ryan of The Newark Star-Ledger reports.
Ryan adds that the Devils are simply using waivers to create the possibility of Pietila heading to AHL Binghamton, but the transaction itself doesn't necessarily mean he'd end up at that level in the event that he clears. New Jersey is a mess with all of its injuries, so the winger with one assist through 19 games this season could stay put.

The Michigan native produced a single point -- an assist -- over seven games after his New Year's Day promotion. With Pietila going back to the minors and Miles Wood (lower body) shifting to injured reserve, the Devils will simply go a different direction up front with Kurtis Gabriel and Nathan Bastian receiving promotions to the top level for Saturday's clash with the Ducks.

Pietila hasn't spent any time with the big club this season, and he only played two games with the Devils last year. He's been brought up as a reinforcement since Taylor Hall (lower body) and Marcus Johansson are on injured reserve. The 25-year-old has compiled 12 goals and 22 points in 34 AHL games this campaign, and will likely slot into the bottom six if he cracks the lineup.

Pietila skated in two games in the 2017-18 season, logging five hits and a shot on goal but was held pointless.
This was the third season that Pietla's played the majority of his games in the AHL, but after scoring 33 points in 49 games last season in the minors, he just mustered 22 tallies (12 goals, 10 assists) in 60 games. Pietila is more known for his defensive prowess as a forward, but with New Jersey having solid depth in its wingers, he'll once again have a hard time cracking the roster in 2018-19 as he returns for the final year of his contract.

The Michigan native made his season debut Sunday against the Hurricanes, and he displayed a bit of a mean streak with four hits over 9:30 of ice time. Selected by the Devils with a fifth-round (129th overall) draft pick in 2011, Pietila will look to build upon his 14-point total over 45 games with the AHL's Devils.

The Devils placed Taylor Hall -- who is expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks with a left knee injury -- on injured reserve in a corresponding move Wednesday, so Pietila may be in for an extended stay with the big club. The 23-year-old winger has played well in the minors this season, tallying 11 points (six goals, five assists) in 12 games, and he could get an opportunity to crack the Devils' lineup as soon as Thursday against Anaheim.

It's unclear exactly what caused the team's change of heart but four players (Pietila included) were recalled by New Jersey on Monday. The 23-year-old played in seven games with the Devils last season and will likely serve as a fringe NHL player again in 2016-17.

Known to be physical and attentive on both ends of the rink, Pietila has contributed a pair of points in seven games with the Devils this season. He's among a handful of young forwards that received playing time with the parent club in the wake of recent injuries to the Devils' regulars.
