Appleby was loaned to AHL Bridgeport on Monday. In a corresponding move, Semyon Varlamov (lower body) was activated from injured reserve. Appleby made six saves on eight shots in a relief appearance against Minnesota on Jan. 15 during his only NHL appearance while Varlamov was unavailable.... See More ... See Less

Islanders' Ken Appleby: Up from AHL
Appleby was called up from AHL Bridgeport on Wednesday. Semyon Varlamov sustained an undisclosed injury during Tuesday's 5-4 overtime loss to Colorado. If Varlamov isn't available for Thursday's game against Arizona, then Appleby will likely back up Ilya Sorokin. Appleby has a 2.88 GAA and an .897 save percentage in 11 contests with Bridgeport this season.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Ken Appleby: Back with Bridgeport
Appleby was reassigned to AHL Bridgeport on Saturday. Appleby was the backup goaltender for the Islanders on Friday as Ilya Sorokin picked up the start, while Semyon Varlamov was out with an undisclosed injury. Appleby is 5-4-0 with a 2.86 GAA and an .898 save percentage in 10 AHL games this season.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Ken Appleby: Recalled from AHL
Appleby was called up from AHL Bridgeport on Thursday. Appleby was promoted as Semyon Varlamov was given a maintenance day off from practice Thursday. Appleby was 5-4-0 with a 2.86 GAA and an .898 save percentage in 10 AHL appearances before his recall.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Ken Appleby: Inks new deal
Appleby signed a two-year, two-way contract with the Islanders on Saturday, per PuckPedia. Appleby has just three games of NHL experience under his belt, though he did receive an emergency recall this past April. The 27-year-old is little more than organizational depth for the Islanders, as he spent most of 2021-22 with ECHL Worcester.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Ken Appleby: Sent back down
Appleby was reassigned to ECHL Worcester on Saturday, per CapFriendly. Appleby was called up to back up Ilya Sorokin on Friday with Semyon Varlamov (illness) out. If the Islanders need goalie depth Sunday versus the Maple Leafs, Appleby could be a candidate to return to the big club, but he's unlikely to play.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Ken Appleby: Earns promotion
Appleby was recalled from ECHL Worcester on Friday. Appleby was promoted to serve as Ilya Sorokin's backup with Semyon Varlamov (illness) unavailable. The 27-year-old hasn't seen an NHL action since the 2017-18 campaign with the Devils. He's sporting a .918 save percentage in 26 ECHL appearances and will likely be sent back down after the game.... Islanders' Ken Appleby: Receives callup
Appleby was promoted from AHL Bridgeport on Tuesday, per CapFriendly. Appleby will provide goaltending depth during the playoffs. He had a 2.28 GAA and a .914 save percentage in seven appearances for Bridgeport this season.... See More ... See Less -
Islanders' Ken Appleby: Waived by Islanders
Appleby was waived by the Islanders on Friday, Pierre LeBrun of The Athletic reports. The Islanders have yet to announce it, but this transaction suggests Appleby signed a two-way contract with New York before being placed on waivers Friday. The 25-year-old netminder has posted a 2.50 GAA and an .896 save percentage in two appearances with AHL Bridgeport this season.... See More ... See Less -
Ken Appleby: Headed for free agency
Appleby didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Jets and will become an unrestricted free agent July 1. Appleby was the odd man out, as Eric Comrie and Mikhail Berdin figures to divide up the goaltending responsibilities with AHL Manitoba. The 24-year-old Appleby may have to consider a move overseas if he wants to continue his professional career, but may not get another taste of NHL action.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Ken Appleby: Makes 24 saves in loss to Preds
Appleby allowed three goals on 27 shots during Thursday's 3-0 loss to Nashville. This was the first start of Appleby's career, and it proved to be a tough task. He recorded an underwhelming .888 save percentage and 3.21 GAA through 16 games with AHL Binghamton, so fantasy expectations should remain in check. However, Appleby appears to be the No. 1 in New Jersey until Cory Schneider (lower body) or Keith Kinkaid (groin) are healthy enough to patrol the blue paint, so the North Bay, Ontario native could be a streaming option immediately following the All-Star break.... Devils' Ken Appleby: Faces four shots in relief duty
Appleby saved all four shots in the third period of Tuesday's 3-2 loss to Boston. Appleby entered after starter Cory Schneider left with a lower-body injury following the second period. With Schneider's status up in the air leading into Thursday's game, Appleby could play host to the Predators in the Devils' final contest before the All-Star break. It's probably best to take a wait-and-see approach with Appleby in all settings, as Nashville projects as a daunting matchup, and he might not even be tasked with the start.... See More ... Devils' Ken Appleby: Perfect in relief in NHL debut
Appleby made his NHL debut Saturday in relief and stopped all 24 shots he faced in a 3-1 loss to the Flyers. Appleby was pressed into duty Saturday after starter Keith Kinkaid was hurt after he coughed up three goals on four shots. He's been in the NHL on emergency recall after Cory Schneider was cut down at the knees by the flu. And now, Appleby may stay because of Kinkaid's ouch. He looked sharp Saturday.... See More ... Devils' Ken Appleby: Back in NHL under emergency condition
Appleby was added to the Devils roster under emergency conditions ahead of Saturday's game against the Flyers. This news presumably means Cory Schneider (illness) isn't expected to be available as a backup for Saturday's contest against the Flyers. With Keith Kinkaid already confirmed as the starter, Appleby would simply be an option in a pinch for the Devils.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Ken Appleby: Goes back to minor league
Appleby was reassigned to AHL Binghamton on Wednesday. It's safe to deduce that the Devils wouldn't have made this move if Cory Schneider (illness) wasn't on track to dress for Thursday's home game against the Capitals. Appleby, who is still looking to make his NHL debut, heads back to the team's top development affiliate with defenseman Steven Santini rejoining the parent club in a corresponding transaction.... See More ... See Less -
Devils' Ken Appleby: Recalled from AHL
Appleby was added from AHL Binghamton on Tuesday to back up Keith Kinkaid versus the Islanders. Appleby's stay with the big club shouldn't last long, especially with Mirco Mueller likely to be activated off injured reserve Thursday. He will serve in a backup role to Kinkaid on Tuesday, but he's not expected to see any action before returning to the minors, barring Corey Schneider's illness keeping him out of commission beyond the matchup with the Islanders.... Stan Fischler@StanFischler3D agoOne more thing on the @NYIslanders. The #PatrickRoy second-half of the season was the coach's "work in progress." He learned a ton about his team and knows who stays, who goes and how to get a play swiftly started from their own end; a bugaboo for many years. Get #Ilya better.

Stan Fischler@StanFischler3D agoGranted the @NYIslanders playoff loss to the @ Canes was hard to swallow after last night's bizarre event. But considering the issues -- fired coach, plus -- the club produced some thrilling moments. The off-season promises to be very interesting to say the least. Enjoy!

Stan Fischler@StanFischler3D agoThe aim for every team is to make the playoffs; and the @NYIslanders did that with a rush. They lost to the @Canes, a team The Hockey News Yearbook picked to win the Cup. The Isles did their best against a top club. Detroit, Ottawa, NJ, Buffalo missed playoffs. Isles made it.

Stan Fischler@StanFischler4D agoAnother total performance is what the @NYIslanders need tonight in Raleigh. The theme has to be "We Did It Before And We Can Do It Again!" It starts with #Varly in goal and through the entire roster; a 100 percent effort and the best players playing their best.

Stan Fischler@StanFischler6D agoThe @NYIslanders victory goes down among the all-time gutsy, noble and wonderful in franchise history. Kudos to #Varly, #Barzy, #Bobby -- he delivered the shot for Mat -- and the rest of the gang. Let's hope they can keep it going in Raleigh.

Stan Fischler@StanFischler6D agoThe @NYIslanders finished the season 8-0-1. Let's see that team in Game Four. There's still hope for a win and-- if that happens -- good can come again. But for now; it's win or bust.

Stan Fischler@StanFischler7D agoI can see the @NYIslanders winning game 4. IF -- A. Varly is at the top of his game; B. Barzy and Bo do what Nelly is doing; score! C. Tighter D and D. Play their hearts out for one of the most devoted fan bases in the NHL. It's not that hard is it? Then go to Raleigh and win.
