Jordan Sambrook: Cut from Blue Jackets training camp
Sambrook was released from training camp by Columbus on Wednesday.
Sambrook was hoping to earn a contract with the Blue Jackets, having failed to stick with the Red Wings after the Original Six team took him in the fifth round (137th overall) of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft. He did generate 34 goals, 72 assists and a cumulative plus-92 rating between the OHL's Otters and Greyhounds from 2015-18, so there's a chance that a defensively inept NHL team could add Sambrook as a depth option closer to the start of the new season.

Jordan Sambrook: Hoping to latch on with Blue Jackets
Sambrook was added to the 2018 Traverse City Prospect Tournament roster Thursday.
Sambrook is looking forward to a clean slate with the Red Wings ultimately deciding not to sign him, despite the defenseman's status as the franchise's 2016 fifth-round (137th overall) draft choice. The 20-year-old split time between the OHL's Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and Erie Otters in 2017-18, accumulating 10 goals and 29 assists over 67 games between those junior clubs. At this point, he can only hope to impress the Blue Jackets enough to garner a PTO and participate in the team's main training camp.

Red Wings' Jordan Sambrook: Making himself available for another draft
Sambrook will re-enter the NHL draft, according to his agent, New York Times contributor Dhiren Mahiban reports.
The Red Wings chose not to sign Sambrook despite selecting him in the fifth round of the 2016 NHL Entry Draft, which is rather surprising given that there's a lack of two-way defensemen on the parent club's roster. Of course, Sambrook has yet to turn pro with his past three seasons spent in the OHL where he's accumulated 34 goals and 72 assists over 195 contests between the Erie Otters and Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds. Still only 20 years old, Sambrook deserves a second chance to land that elusive entry-level contract.
