    Lapierre was released from his professional tryout Monday by the Rangers, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

    Lapierre was a long shot to make the roster given the depth down the middle in New York. After spending last season in Sweden, it appears the 31-year-old will have to return to Europe if he hopes to continue his professional career. In 614 NHL appearances, spread out across five different organizations. Lapierre has tallied 65 goals and 74 assists to go with 586 PIM.

    Lapierre will attend the Rangers' training camp on a professional tryout agreement, Renaud Lavoie of TVA Sports reports.

    Lapierre appeared in 34 games with MODO of the Swedish Hockey League last season, tallying 19 points (eight goals, 11 assists) with an ugly minus-17 rating over that span. He'll hope to secure a bottom-six role, and a subsequent contract offer, with the Rangers in September's training camp. If he's ultimately unable to do so, the 31-year-old forward will likely head back overseas to continue his career.
