Adam McQuaid: Hangs up skates
McQuaid announced his retirement from the NHL on Saturday, Joe Haggerty of Boston Hockey Now reports.
McQuaid appeared in 512 regular-season games, racking up 16 goals and 57 helpers to go with 694 PIM. He won a Stanley Cup with the Bruins in 2011. McQuaid produced nine points in 68 playoff contests over his 10-year NHL career, which saw him split the 2018-19 campaign between the Rangers and Blue Jackets after leaving Boston.

Blue Jackets' Adam McQuaid: Misses postseason
McQuaid missed the final 15 games of the 2018-19 campaign due to a head injury.
McQuaid was unable to suit up during the postseason, making him a rather disappointing trade deadline addition for a team that went all in on a deep playoff run. The 32-year-old blueliner should get some offers come free agency, probably in the range of the $2.75 million he earned this season. Not exactly an offensive force, he's only reached the 15-point mark once in his career, McQuaid won't provide much in term of value in most fantasy formats.

Blue Jackets' Adam McQuaid: Remains unavailable
McQuaid (head) didn't travel to Boston with his teammates ahead of Thursday's Game 1 against the Bruins, Brian Hedger of NHL.com reports.
McQuaid has been sidelined since the end of March with a suspected concussion, and there's still no telling when he might be ready to return. The gritty blueliner will need to be cleared to practice before getting the green light to rejoin the lineup, so he should be considered out indefinitely until that occurs.

While McQuaid is still expected to be out long term, the fact that he didn't make the trip confirms he will miss the next two games. At this point, the blueliner could be facing the prospect of missing the postseason entirely and should be considered doubtful at best when the club returns to Columbus for Games 3 and 4. In order to bolster their blue-line depth, the Jackets promoted Adam Clendening from AHL Cleveland.

Given his limited offensive contributions, the defenseman is unlikely to offer much in terms of fantasy value. With the team heading from Nashville to Buffalo for a game Sunday, McQuaid will almost certainly miss the matchup with the Sabres as well.
