Bass was a long shot to make the Avs' Opening Night roster. If he can't secure an NHL contract, the winger could head overseas or latch on with a minor-league club. Considering the Ontario native has logged 417 career games in the AHL, there are likely to be several interested clubs that would welcome his experience on a minor-league deal.

Cody Bass: Earns professional tryout with Colorado
Bass has signed a PTO with the Avalanche and will compete for a spot in the organization at training camp.
The 31-year-old center has recorded 10 points (four goals, six assists) and 69 penalty minutes in 47 games with AHL Milwaukee the past two years. Bass is a long shot to crack an NHL lineup for his first time since the 2016-17 season.

Predators general manager David Poile decided to trim the fat from his roster before Thanksgiving, waiving Bass and defenseman Matt Carle. Even when healthy, Bass -- who likely would head to AHL Milwaukee in the event that he goes unclaimed -- simply didn't play enough to be relevant in fantasy, averaging 6:46 of ice time, so fantasy owners are advised to fish for centers in a different pond.

It's unclear exactly when the 29-year-old center sustained the ailment but his departure isn't likely to have a significant impact on the Predators as he was averaging only 6:57 minutes of ice time over two games this season. Bass agreed to terms on a two-year, two-way contract with Nashville on Wednesday that will pay him $575,000 at the NHL level.
Bass was on the ice for 17 NHL matchups this season where he logged 26 hits but failed to tally a point. Even in the AHL, the winger is more of a physical bruiser than goal scorer and could perhaps even be considered an enforcer. With the Admirals this season, the 29-year-old spent 84 minutes in the Sin Bin in just 38 contests. Unless you are in need of PIM or hits next year, you may want to look for other wide options for your fantasy lineups.

Bass is a fringe option for the Predators. He was summoned by the parent club at the beginning of December and ended up appearing in two games. Nashville is not likely to expect too much out of Bass as his ascension to the NHL corresponds to the Predators placing Colin Wilson (lower body) on injured reserve. The native of Owen Sound, Ontario put his toughness on display with the Admirals ahead of the call-up, notching 50 PIM in 21 games.
