LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) Rashawn Thomas had 28 points and 13 rebounds as Texas A&M-Corpus Christi held off a late charge to beat McNeese State 73-66 on Saturday.

The victory keeps the Islanders (14-9, 7-5) in fifth place in the Southland Conference standings.

Thomas hit 11 of 21 field goal attempts. Ehab Amin added 15 points and 11 rebounds and Kareem South chipped in 10 for the Islanders, who have won five straight.

Trailing 61-53 with 6:35 remaining, McNeese State's James Harvey made two free throws and then drilled a 3-pointer as the Cowboys closed to 61-58 with 5:50 left in the game. Stephen Ugochukwu's layup a minute later had McNeese State within one, 63-62.

The Islanders finally broke free for the win after Amin and Jake Kocher had back-to-back layups with 58 seconds left. McNeese State failed on two 3-point attempts.

Kalob Ledoux and Harvey had 15 apiece for the Cowboys (7-17, 4-9).
