Boston College has made ACC history for all the wrong reasons.

With its 66-50 loss to Clemson, Boston College became the first time in league history to go winless in league play in football (0-8) and basketball (0-18). The Eagles are the first men's basketball team to go winless in ACC history since Maryland did so in 1987.

The last time that a major conference program went winless in league play in both major sports was World War II, when the 1943-44 Georgia Bulldogs lost all of their SEC games during an abbreviated schedule.

While this history is certainly no accomplishment, it is amazing to review the Eagles' football and basketball campaigns to note how close the school came to get at least one ACC win in either sport.

In football, it was a 3-0 loss to Wake Forest in a game where the Demon Deacons totaled just 124 yards of offense and only got five first downs -- the fewest amount of first downs in a win in 20 years. Boston College's defense, which was one of the best in the country, did almost everything it could to make up for four turnovers and a pair of missed field goals, even coming up with a goal-line stand after the offense lost a fumble on their own five yard line.

Unfortunately for BC, Wake Forest was able to hit its chip shot field goal to secure the only points of the game.

In basketball, the heartbreak is more recent. Just a few days ago Boston College was set to notch its first ACC win of the season at NC State. Leading by one, the Eagles totally collapsed on defense and allowed Maverick Rowan to get an easy bucket at the horn on this inbounds play.

One field goal, one touchdowns or one defensive stop could have changed this fate. Heck, Boston College even had the league-leading Tar Heels on the ropes in Chestnut Hill before Justin Jackson shot UNC out of there with a win.

Of course the internet, which shows absolutely no mercy, responded with Crying Jordan memes.
