A mass ejection in Birmingham on Thursday night led to one of the strangest visuals you'll ever see at a college basketball game.

Louisiana Tech's men's basketball team finished its game at UAB with only four players. Not only that, but four players -- and only one coach. The game went full tilt between the Bulldogs and Blazers, as a second-half fight led to more than a dozen Louisiana Tech players and staff being ejected from the game with six minutes left.

UAB had its share of ejections, but kept six players on its bench. All coaches and staff aside from UAB coach Rob Ehsan had to leave the Blazers bench as well.

The resulting images were bizarre. Empty benches and a half-empty arena. UAB was winning 63-50 at the time of the fracas, and wound up holding off Louisiana Tech 79-70.

It started when Blazers senior guard Hakeem Baxter went after Louisiana Tech's Jacobi Boykins. From there, benches cleared and a blob of humanity moved in amoeba-like fashion about the court. It was resolved quickly, but the lesson is clear: Don't leave the bench if you're not in the game.

The officials followed protocol and ejected everyone who broke the rule by leaving the bench in the event of a fight. You occasionally see a story about a team finishing with only four players in a game, but normally it's because of aberrational foul-outs.

UAB had more players on the floor for the final six minutes, yet was outscored 20-16.
