Oregon defensive end Torrodney Prevot has been pulled from the lineup and suspended indefinitely for a "violation of University and Department of Athletics codes of conduct."
The University of Oregon Police Department confirmed Friday that Prevot is the subject of an investigation that "remains open." According to the Daily Emerald, a former Oregon athlete filed a complaint alleging that she was assaulted by Prevot on multiple occasions.
Coach Mark Helfrich said Saturday that the recent decision to suspend Prevot came as a result of "new information."
"It was something where we received new information last night and we made a decision in real time. It is something that has been going on since late spring, early summer," Helfrich said via 247Sports.
"We have been beyond proactive, beyond transparent and beyond cooperative in every aspect and continue to do that."
Prevot's status was not known to be in jeopardy until he was absent from the team's depth chart for the season opener against UC-Davis. The senior, who was a former four-star prospect from Houston, played in all 13 games last season, started five contests and was expected to be a starter this fall for the Ducks.
Prevot's spot, the rush end position, will likely be filled sophomores Justin Hollins and Jalen Jelks. If there's a positive takeaway for Ducks' fans with this sudden change in Prevot's eligibility, it's that new defensive coordinator Brady Hoke should have an opportunity to try out several players against UC-Davis in a game that Oregon is expected to win with relative ease.
