Jeff Tedford is returning to Fresno State.

Tedford has been hired as the Bulldogs' new coach, according to Dennis Dodd. A press conference to announce the hire will take place on Friday, per the school.

The development is not much of a surprise as Tedford, 55, has been connected to the Fresno State job ever since the team fired Tim DeRuyter earlier this season.

Tedford last served as a head coach on the college level at California, where he spent 11 seasons and went 82-57 with a Pac-10 title in 2006. Since then, Tedford has spent time as offensive coordinator of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, coach of the CFL's British Columbia Lions and currently as an offensive consultant at Washington.

Of course, long before he ever got into coaching, Tedford was a quarterback at Fresno State where he set several school records in his two seasons with the Bulldogs.

Fresno State fired DeRuyter on Oct. 23 after the Bulldogs got off to a 1-7 start. They are currently 1-9 this year after finishing the 2015 season at 3-9.

Tedford is the first new coach hired ahead of the 2017 season.
