BOSTON (AP) Ryan Anderson scored 28 points and added 11 rebounds, and Lonnie Jackson made his only basket of the night on a 3-pointer in overtime to give Boston College the lead for good as the Eagles beat Sacred Heart 75-67 on Tuesday night.
Joe Rahon scored 19 points and Olivier Hanlan had 15 with five rebounds to help BC (3-4) earn its second straight victory.
Chris Evans scored 18 points for Sacred Heart, but he missed a layup and a 3-pointer in the final minute of regulation that could have given the Pioneers (1-5) the lead. Steve Glowiak added 15 points and seven rebounds for Sacred Heart, which had never beaten an Atlantic Coast Conference school but forced the Eagles to overtime.
Jackson hit a 3-pointer to start the overtime and BC never trailed again. They made it a six-point game - the Eagles' biggest lead to that point - on Rahon's reverse layup with just under 2 minutes left in overtime.
The surprisingly close game against a one-win team from the Northeast Conference came five days after Boston College lost by two points to No. 18 Connecticut in the 2K Sports Classic at Madison Square Garden. The Eagles beat Washington in the third-place game.
Sacred Heard has not beaten BC in seven tries, and the Pioneers are 0-11 against the ACC. The Pioneers coming off an 85-73 victory over Fordham that was the first for coach Anthony Latina.
But BC fell behind by 11 and never led in the first half, cutting the deficit to nine when Anderson hit a layup with under 4 minutes left in the first. Neither team scored for more than 3 1/2 minutes until Garland Owens made a layup to cut the deficit to seven points at the break.
BC scored the first five points of the second half, too, making it a two-point game at 34-32. Hanlan made a 3-pointer off an offensive rebound with 16:15 left to make it 37-36 - the Eagles' first lead.
The score was tied at 61 after Tevin Falzon's putback with 2:45 left and it stayed that way into the final minute, when Evans went across the lane for an off-balance layup attempt. He missed, and the ball bounced off a BC player and out of bounds.
The Pioneers dribbled the clock down to about 6 seconds before Evans took a 3-pointer from the top of the key. Rahon grabbed the rebound and BC coach Steve Donahue called a timeout from the sideline with 2.1 seconds left. The Eagles' had to take the ball out under the Sacred Heart basket, and Anderson's half-courter at the buzzer was short of everything.
