LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) Demetrius Troy and Diante Baldwin scored 20 points and had five assists each as UNCG defeated VMI 91-82 on Saturday, improving to 5-1 in the Southern Conference.

The Spartans (14-5, 5-1), coming off a four-point upset at SoCon leader East Tennessee State, already have beaten co-leader Chattanooga once. The 14-win start is UNCG's best since the 1995-96 season and ties its total wins from a year ago.

The 20 points is a career-high for the sophomore Troy, who was in the starting lineup for just the second time and shot 7-for-10 from the floor with three 3-pointers. Marvin Smith sat out with an ankle sprain.

QJ Peterson scored 31 for the Keydets (4-12, 1-4) who whacked a 20-point UNCG lead down to seven with under a minute to go. Julian Eleby added 19 points for VMI with nine rebounds and seven assists, Armani Smith 12 and Trey Chapman scored 11.
