Pirates starting pitcher prospect Tyler Glasnow tossed a career-best six scoreless innings Tuesday for Class A West Virginia, improving to 5-2. He allowed three hits and one walk, while striking out seven.
"I felt good in my bullpen before [the game]," Glasnow said, per MLB.com. "I was trying to slow my tempo down. I feel like the first inning of a lot of my games have just been kind of fast-paced, just trying to get through it. Today, everything felt good and slow. I felt like I could work with my offspeed [stuff] more."
Glasnow has a 2.48 ERA and 1.09 WHIP in 17 starts. He also has 110 strikeouts in 76 1/3 innings. Glasnow, who is considered the Pirates' 17th-best prospect by MLB.com, is 5-5 with a 2.28 ERA and 1.08 WHIP in 29 career outings (28 starts). He is also striking out 12.1 batters per nine innings.
"It's like night and day from the beginning of the season or from last year," he said "These past seven or eight starts, I've been working with our pitching coach, Jeff Johnson, and he's changed my whole my mindset on changeups. I feel just as confident, if not more confident, in my changeup than my fastball some games."
