Cubs release Hayden Simpson

The Cubs have released right-handed pitcher Hayden Simpson, according to the Chicago Tribune. A first-round draft pick in 2010, Simpson posted a 6.56 ERA, 1.86 WHIP, 63 strikeouts and 51 walks in 82 1/3 innings across two minor-league levels last season.
