Derek Law opts for Tommy John surgery

Giants pitching prospect Derek Law underwent Tommy John surgery Tuesday, after receiving a second opinion on the elbow Monday.

Law was pitching well at Double-A Richmond prior to the injury, posting a 2.57 ERA in 28 innings of relief. He is likely out until at least next summer, with a typical timeline for recovery from this surgery lasting at least 12 months.
