Giants ace Madison Bumgarner pitched poorly last Sunday against Colorado. The odds of him coming up with two bad performances in a row were astronomical.
Instead, he crafted one of the best performances of his career against San Diego on Saturday. He had a perfect game going until pinch-hitter Melvin Upton singled with two outs in the eighth inning. That proved to be the lone runner to reach. He fanned nine in raising his record to 18-7 and lower his ERA to 2.91.
Bumgarner is 7-1 over his last eight decisions.
