Mariners allow INF Carlos Rivero to become free agent

The Mariners opted not to offer infielder Carlos Rivero a contract prior to the tender deadline on Tuesday, making him a free agent, reports the Tacoma News Tribune. Rivero was obtained on Nov. 3 in waiver claim from Boston. He currently leads the Venezuelan Winter League in home runs.
