Yankees relief prospect Mark Montgomery was placed on the seven-day disabled list at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, but the Journal News reports Wednesday that it is mostly to do with getting him some rest.

“Shoulder was a bit tired,” vice president of baseball operations Mark Newman said. “He could have pitched but we want to give periodic breaks to some of the younger pitchers and this seemed like a good time. Back pitching on Saturday.”

The 22-year-old has a 3.00 ERA in Triple-A, but has struggled with his control recently.
