Mets left-handed pitchers Dario Alvarez, Sean Gilmartin, Jack Leathersich and Scott Rice have combined for a 15.43 spring ERA, leaving general manager Sandy Alderson and manager Terry Collins dissatisfied with the team's lefty candidates for the bullpen, ESPNNewYork.com reports.

"I’m not happy where we are with our left-handed situation," Alderson said Thursday.

The leading candidate to serve as the team's left-handed relief option at the beginning of spring was Josh Edgin, but the southpaw is now considering Tommy John surgery to fix an overstretched ligament in his elbow.

"Yeah, I’m disappointed," Collins said. "Here’s a chance. You come to the major league spring training and all you want is a chance. Now, with our guy down, if I’m left-handed I’m looking in the mirror and deciding what do I need to do to get that job, because it’s out there."

Alvarez surrendered four earned runs on one hit and three walks without recording an out in Thursday's 11-9 win over the Nationals.
