Pirates acquire Atahualpa Severino from Royals

The Pirates have acquired minor-league pitcher Atahualpa Severino from the Royals for cash, the Kansas City Star reports Friday.

Severino had a 3.00 ERA with 10 strikeouts against six walks over nine innings at Triple-A. He'll give the Pirates some minor-league depth -- perhaps a necessity, as the club has put a great deal of mileage on their bullpen this year.
