Pitching prospect Daniel Winkler needs Tommy John surgery

Rockies pitching prospect Daniel Winkler, who injured his right elbow Saturday pitching for Double-A Tulsa, will undergo Tommy John surgery, reports the Denver Post. An MRI confirmed Winkler tore his ulnar collateral ligament.

It's another big blow to the organization. Winkler was 5-2 with a 1.41 ERA in 12 starts, with 71 strikeouts in 70 innings, and was "certainly on the Rockies' radar," the report said.
