Rangers outfielder Leonys Martin was sent to Arizona on Wednesday to gear up for instructional league action, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Martin had his right hamate bone in his hand removed near the end of August, ending his season. With potentially stiff competition for the starting center-field job coming in the form of the speedster Delino DeShields, Martin will need to show he's fully healthy in order to have a chance to compete for the spot come spring training.
