Rays pitching prospect Blake Snell is closing in on history. Snell, who is pitching for Double-A Montgomery, has thrown 46 consecutive scoreless innings to start the season. That is three innings shy of the modern-day minor-league single-season record, held by right-hander Brad Thompson, according to Baseball America. Thompson was pitching for the Cardinals' Double-A team when he achieved  the feat in 2014.

Overall this season, while pitching for High Class A Charlotte and Double-A, Snell has a 6-0 record over eight starts. He has a combined 54:19 K:BB ratio in the 46 innings. Snell was a first-round draft pick (52nd overall) by the Rays in 2011.
