Kaiir Elam BUF CB
Bills' Kaiir Elam: Entering important third season
4h agoElam received extra reps throughout the spring due to veteran Rasul Douglas missing the voluntary OTA sessions, Chris Brown of the Bills' official site reports.
Elam hasn't quite panned out yet as a first-round draft choice from 2022, but all the talk around the Bills this offseason seems to indicate the team is going to give him a fair crack at playing time in 2024. He's currently listed as a backup behind Douglas (who did show up for all non-voluntary work) and holdover Christian Benford, but with Tre'Davious White departing to the Rams, there's a real chance for Elam to see meaningful playing time, whether as a key backup or even sneaking his way into a starter's role.

Tee Higgins CIN WR
Bengals' Tee Higgins: Signs franchise tag
6h agoHiggins signed his franchise tag with the Bengals on Saturday, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
As a result, the star wideout will report for Cincinnati's training camp poised to make $21.8 million on the one-year tag. Schefter's report also indicates it's unlikely Higgins and the team will come to terms on a long-term deal, making this possibly the 25-year-old's last campaign with the team as the Bengals push for another Super Bowl appearance. The fourth-year wideout struggled with injuries throughout last season and never really got into a rhythm within the offense, especially after quarterback Joe Burrow went down with a season-ending wrist injury in Week 12. With everyone expected to be fully healthy entering the 2024 season, Higgins and the passing unit should be in a position to be electric once again.

Jesper Horsted NO TE
Saints' Jesper Horsted: Secures deal with Saints
21h agoNew Orleans signed Horsted to a contract Friday.
Horsted finished last season on the Raiders' injured reserve list due to a hamstring issue, but he's presumably now healthy. The tight end was limited mostly to special-teams work with Las Vegas in 2023, logging eight offensive snaps and catching his only target for four yards while recording 216 special-teams snaps. Horsted's signing will help fill the void left by Juwan Johnson's foot injury. Johnson is set for surgery but could still be ready for the start of the regular season.

Dylan Leonard GATECH TE
Dylan Leonard: Dealing with minor hamstring injury
21h agoLeonard suffered a minor hamstring injury before reaching an injury settlement with the Broncos on Thursday, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports.
Leonard signed as an undrafted free agent with Denver May 11 but was waived with an injury settlement Thursday. The nature of the tight end's injury was undisclosed at that time and has now been revealed to be a minor hamstring issue. Since Leonard isn't dealing with a serious injury, he should be able to join another organization this season if presented an offer.
-
Tony Jefferson LAC SS
Chargers' Tony Jefferson: Returning to NFL with Chargers
22h agoThe Chargers signed Jefferson to a contract Friday.
Jefferson spent last season working as a scouting intern with the Ravens, but he is coming out of retirement to get back on the field. The defensive back last played for the Giants in 2022, when he recorded 23 tackles (16 solo) and one defensed pass over nine contests. Jefferson isn't guaranteed to make Los Angeles' roster, but he'll have a chance to compete during training camp for what would likely be a depth role in the team's secondary.
-
Adam Trautman DEN TE
Broncos' Adam Trautman: Dealing with abdomen injury
1d agoTrautman did not participate in Denver's mandatory minicamp Wednesday due to an abdomen injury, Jon Heath of USA Today reports.
Coach Sean Payton said Trautman's injury isn't too serious and won't need surgery, calling it "basically a sprain." The fifth-year pro thus appears on track for the start of training camp late July. Trautman projects to contribute as a rotational part of the Broncos' tight-end corps behind Greg Dulcich (foot/hamstring), though the latter is still working toward a return to the field.

Max Scherzer TEX SP
Rangers' Max Scherzer: Making last rehab start
6m agoScherzer (back/arm) is expected to throw 70-75 pitches in a rehab start with Triple-A Round Rock on Saturday, which will be his final rehab start barring a setback, Josh Kirshenbaum of MLB.com reports.
Saturday's start will be Scherzer's second rehab appearance, following up four scoreless innings Sunday. If all goes well, Scherzer will be ready to return to the active roster and make his 2024 debut after undergoing an offseason back surgery and dealing with thumb and forearm issues throughout his recovery.

Jordan Wicks CHC SP
Cubs' Jordan Wicks: Has Grade 2 oblique strain
40m agoWicks was diagnosed with a Grade 2 oblique strain Saturday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.
Craig Counsell didn't offer much of a timeline for Wicks' recovery, mentioning only that Wicks was "going to miss some time." However, a Grade 2 sprain likely indicates that Wicks will be sidelined for significantly longer than the minimum 15 days, leaving his rotation spot to Kyle Hendricks for the foreseeable future. Wicks sustained the injury Friday during his first start since April after spending a month on the IL due to a forearm injury.
-
Will Smith LAD C
Dodgers' Will Smith: On bench Saturday
1h agoSmith is out of the lineup for Saturday's game against the Royals, Mike DiGiovanna of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Smith will give way to Austin Barnes behind the dish for the second time in three days, with Barnes batting ninth Saturday. In 256 plate appearances, Smith owns a .848 OPS with 10 homers and a 16.0 percent strikeout rate.
-
Chris Martin BOS RP
Red Sox's Chris Martin: Rehab assignment starting Sunday
1h agoMartin (personal) will begin his rehab assignment with Triple-A Worcester on Sunday, Jen McCaffrey of The Athletic reports.
After initially being expected to start his rehab assignment Saturday, Martin will actually get going with Worcester on Sunday. The right-hander has been working his way back from a stretch of heightened anxiety, missing the last month of action.
-
Jesse Winker WAS LF
Nationals' Jesse Winker: Exits early versus Miami
1h agoWinker (undisclosed) exited Saturday's matchup with the Marlins in the bottom of the third inning, Spencer Nusbaum of The Washington Post reports.
Winker singled and later rounded second base on a base knock from Ildemaro Vargas in the bottom of the first inning, being tagged out after awkwardly sliding back into the bag. Luis Garcia replaced him at the plate in the third inning and more information on Winker's status will likely come following Saturday's contest.
-
Leody Taveras TEX CF
Rangers' Leody Taveras: Sitting Saturday
1h agoTaveras is not in the starting lineup Saturday versus the Mariners, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
Taveras will get a day off after he went 0-for-2 with a walk and two strikeouts in the team's 3-2 win Friday. Travis Jankowski will take over in center field and bat sixth against Seattle.

Olivier-Maxence Prosper DAL SF
Mavericks' Olivier-Maxence Prosper: Gets garbage-time run in Game 4
6h agoProsper posted zero points (0-2 FG), two rebounds and one assist in five minutes Friday in the Mavericks' 122-84 win over the Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
Prosper sprained his ankle in a practice prior to Game 4 of the Mavericks' first-round series with the Clippers and had been sidelined for multiple weeks before being cleared to play ahead of Game 1 of the NBA Finals. He didn't see any action in either of the first three games of the series, but with Friday's contest turning into a rout by the end of the third quarter, Prosper was able to make his NBA Finals debut in garbage time.
-
Kyrie Irving DAL PG
Mavericks' Kyrie Irving: Scores 21 points in Game 4 victory
18h agoIrving accumulated 21 points (10-18 FG, 1-6 3Pt), four rebounds and six assists over 31 minutes during Friday's 122-84 win over the Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
Luka Doncic was the best player for the Mavericks in this Game 4 victory, but Irving posted a strong line as well. The veteran floor general reached the 20-point plateau for the second consecutive contest, and he'll need to be at his best if the Mavericks want to pull off the upset in Game 5 of the series Monday. Irving is averaging 21.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game in the series.
-
Dereck Lively II DAL C
Mavericks' Dereck Lively: Another double-double
18h agoLively contributed 11 points (4-5 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds and one steal across 22 minutes during Friday's 122-84 victory over the Celtics in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
Lively has been coming off the bench, but he's made a substantial impact on both ends of the court. The rookie out of Duke owned the paint and was a massive factor in the rebounding battle that saw the Mavericks dominate the contest. Lively is the first rookie to record multiple double-doubles in the NBA Finals since Magic Johnson in 1980.
-
Luka Doncic DAL PG
Mavericks' Luka Doncic: Scores 29 despite shooting woes
18h agoDoncic accumulated 29 points (12-26 FG, 0-8 3Pt, 5-7 FT), five rebounds, five assists and three steals over 33 minutes during Friday's 122-84 win over Boston in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
Doncic had another rough showing from a shooting perspective, needing 26 shots to score 29 points and missing all eight of his three-point attempts, but he still led Dallas in scoring as the Mavericks kept themselves alive for at least one more game. Doncic has surpassed the 25-point mark in 11 consecutive games during the current playoff run and is expected to play a prominent role for the Mavericks in Game 5 of the series Monday, as he'll probably have to lead the team again if the Mavericks are to pull off an upset at TD Garden.
-
Sam Hauser BOS SF
Celtics' Sam Hauser: Scores 14 points in Game 4 loss
18h agoHauser provided 14 points (5-7 FG, 4-6 3Pt) and four rebounds across 20 minutes during Friday's 122-84 loss to the Mavericks in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
The fact that Hauser was among the Celtics' scoring leaders in a potential title-clinching game of the NBA Finals tells you all you need to know about Boston's offense in this loss. Boston was atrocious on offense and couldn't get things going throughout the contest, but Hauser at least provided a spark with his three-point shooting. Hauser is not expected to play a prominent role for Boston offensively in the rest of the series.
-
Jaylen Brown BOS SF
Celtics' Jaylen Brown: Struggles from field Friday
18h agoBrown closed with 10 points (3-12 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 3-4 FT), one rebound and two assists across 27 minutes during Friday's 122-84 loss to the Mavericks in Game 4 of the NBA Finals.
The Celtics suffered one of the worst losses in NBA Finals history. Brown had a rough showing on both ends of the court and struggled massively from the floor, ending with more field-goal attempts than points scored. Brown is among the Boston players who will look to bounce back quickly, with Game 5 -- and a potential title-clinching win in front of the Celtics' fans at TD Garden -- awaiting Monday.

Sergei Bobrovsky FLA G
Panthers' Sergei Bobrovsky: Set to start Game 4
5h agoBobrovsky will guard the road net in Game 4 against Edmonton on Saturday, per Steve Goldstein of Bally Sports Florida.
Bobrovsky has stopped 151 of 160 shots during his six-game winning streak. If he wins again Saturday, the Panthers will hoist the Stanley Cup, and he could earn the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. Bobrovsky has a 15-5 record this postseason with a 2.07 GAA and a .916 save percentage through 20 outings.
-
Evander Kane EDM LW
Oilers' Evander Kane: Not at practice Saturday
6h agoKane (hip) is not at morning practice and is questionable ahead of Game 4 versus Florida on Saturday, Daniel Nugent-Bowman of The Athletic reports.
Kane didn't play in Game 3 on Thursday after logging only 10:33 of ice time in Game 2 on Monday. The feisty winger has four goals, four assists, 37 PIM and 64 hits in 20 appearances this postseason. Warren Foegele is slated to occupy a spot in the top-six group should Kane be unavailable to play.
-
Cole Reinhardt OTT LW
Senators' Cole Reinhardt: Inks two-way contract
1d agoReinhardt signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Senators on Friday.
Reinhardt had eight goals, 23 points and 76 PIM in 56 regular-season contests with AHL Belleville in 2023-24. The 24-year-old appeared in one NHL game in 2021-22, but he hasn't played at the top level over the past two campaigns.
-
Radim Simek DET D
Radim Simek: Returning to Europe
1d agoSimek signed a three-year contract with Liberec of the Czech Extraliga on Friday.
The 31-year-old defenseman has played parts of five seasons with the Sharks but he spent the entire 2023-24 season at the AHL level, picking up four goals and 13 assists in 49 games split between Grand Rapids and AHL San Jose. The Czech native will likely finish his playing career in Europe.
-
Karl Henriksson NYR C
Rangers' Karl Henriksson: Inks overseas deal
1d agoHenriksson agreed to terms on a three-year contract with the Swedish club Vaxjo Lakers on Thursday.
Henriksson will be a restricted free agent for the Rangers this offseason, so the team could retain his NHL rights by giving him a qualifying offer. Having said that, the fact that Henriksson signed a three-year deal with a Swedish team suggests he won't be making a return to North America any time soon, so the Rangers could simply decide to let him walk. In the minors this year, the 23-year-old center generated 11 goals and 12 assists in 64 games -- that's not the type of productivity New York was hoping for when they selected him in the second round of the 2019 NHL Draft.
-
Brett Kulak EDM D
Oilers' Brett Kulak: Garners assist in Game 3
2d agoKulak provided an assist, three blocked shots and two PIM in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Panthers in Game 3.
The helper ended a seven-game slump for Kulak. The defenseman has earned six points, 18 shots on net, 20 hits, 42 blocked shots, 12 PIM and an even plus-minus rating over 21 playoff appearances. Kulak remains in a third-pairing role and isn't overly physical, but he's been steady for an Oilers defense that has become tumultuous in the Stanley Cup Finals.
