The addition of two safeties via the draft has the Giants altering their plan in the secondary, according to NJ.com. Veteran Chykie Brown was expected to move from cornerback to safety, but Tom Coughlin said Friday he intends to keep him at cornerback. Second-year defensive back Bennett Jackson, who was drafted as a cornerback, will likely remain at his new safety position.
The Giants and cornerback Chykie Brown have agreed to terms on a new contract, according to the NY Daily News. Brown is set to play his second year with the Giants after spending four seasons with the Ravens. The 28-year-old has 79 total tackles and 10 passes defensed over his career. The signing will reunite him with defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.
The Giants placed cornerback Prince Amukamara (torn biceps) on season-ending injured reserve and claimed cornerback Chykie Brown off waivers from the Ravens, the Giants announced.
The Ravens announced Tuesday they activated defensive tackle Terrence Cody (hip) from the PUP list. To clear a roster spot, tight end Phillip Supernaw was released. The Ravens also released cornerback Chykie Brown and promoted cornerback Tramain Jacobs from the practice squad.
The Ravens have listed the following players as inactive for Sunday's Week 8 matchup with the Bengals: tight end Owen Daniels (wrist), defensive lineman Chris Canty (wrist), running back Bernard Pierce, cornerback Chykie Brown, linebacker Arthur Brown and offensive linemen Gino Gradkowski and Jah Reid. Pierce's de-activation comes as a surprise, but he's averaged 2.1 and 2.6 yards per carry in the team's last two games, though he's scored a touchdown in each. The Ravens' goal-line looks could shift to Lorenzo Taliaferro with Pierce unavailable. Daniels and Canty had already been ruled out, but the Ravens are otherwise very healthy heading into the key matchup against the Bengals. Four players listed as probable are active for the game, including Steve Smith (not injury related), linebacker Daryl Smith (not injury related) and offensive linemen Eugene Monroe (knee) and Kelechi Osemele (knee).
