Fuller recorded 55 tackles and two interceptions over 16 games during the 2015 season. After an up-and-down rookie season, Fuller regressed a little bit as a sophomore, finishing with nine fewer tackles and two fewer interceptions. The Bears spent a first-round draft pick on Fuller in 2014 with the belief that he'd be a strong successor to Charles Tillman, but Fuller will need to demonstrate some progress in 2016 if he hopes to cement himself as a part of the team's long-term outlook.
Fuller made four stops and defensed one pass in Sunday's 26-20 overtime loss to the 49ers. Fuller wasn't at fault for the game-winning 71-yard touchdown by 49ers wideout Torrey Smith that came on a botched coverage, but he didn't exactly stand out in the contest. The second-year cornerback has 42 tackles and just one interception in 12 games this season.
Fuller made a season-high eight tackles in Sunday's win over the Lions. The high tackle total wasn't exactly indicative of a good performance from Fuller, though he nearly came away with a huge turnover. With the Lions at the Bears' two-yard line late in the second quarter, Fuller forced a fumble on a Golden Tate catch, but the officials ruled Tate crossed the goal line before losing the ball. In any case, it went down as a touchdown against Fuller, an occurrence that has become all too common during his young career. He'll need to show improvement in locking down opposing wideouts if he hopes to convince coach John Fox he's a capable franchise cornerback.
Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller was benched in the fourth quarter of Sunday's 48-23 loss to the Cardinals in favor of reserve cornerback Terrance Mitchell, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reports. He finished the game with one tackle and played 50 of a possible 59 defensive snaps. Prior to his removal, Fuller had been getting beaten handily all game by Larry Fitzgerald. The veteran wideout easily outmuscled Fuller for inside position on an 8-yard touchdown in the second quarter, then fooled Fuller on a flea-flicker touchdown in the third. In addition to giving up the two touchdowns, Fuller also took a 42-yard pass interference penalty, one week after he accrued a 34-yard infraction. Fuller's early successes during the first half of his rookie year seem like a distant memory at this point, as his performance has been on the downswing ever since training camp. He's still expected to start Sunday against the Seahawks, but get pulled off the field early if he continues to produce negative plays.
Bears cornerback Kyle Fuller was back on the practice field Saturday, reports ESPNChicago.com. Fuller tweaked his ankle during Friday's practice, which caused him to be a limited participant.
