The Chiefs declined to renew Millard's (knee) contract for the 2017 season, Terez A. Paylor of The Kansas City Star reports. Millard signed a reserve/future contract with the Chiefs in January of 2016 but was stashed on injured reserve before the season started due to a torn ACL. When fully healthy, he should be able to help out a fullback-friendly team in training camp.
Millard (knee) was sent to the Chiefs' injured reserve list Wednesday. Millard suffered a torn ACL during the Chiefs' preseason bout with the Rams. He reportedly already underwent surgery with Dr. James Andrews on Monday and will hopefully experience a full recovery in time for the 2017 campaign.
The 49ers waived 10 players on Monday. They were K Corey Acosta, LB Steve Beauharnais, CB Mylan Hicks, T Sean Hooey, WR Mario Hull, WR Chuck Jacobs, WR Nigel King, LB Shawn Lemon, FB Trey Millard and DL Lawrence Okoye. Additionally, the 49ers placed G/C Daniel Kilgore on the PUP list to start the season and WR DeAndre Smelter on the NFI list. The team also placed WR Dres Anderson and LB Desmond Bishop on injured reserve.
The 49ers made several moves to trim the roster to 75 players Monday. The team waived quarterback McLeod Bethel-Thompson, safety D.J. Campbell, tight end Kevin Greene, running back Jewel Hampton, punt Colton Schmidt, linebacker Kion Wilson and wide receiver Devon Wylie, while also releasing wide receiver David Reed. The team placed running back Marcus Lattimore, fullback Trey Millard, cornerback Keith Reaser and guard Brandon Thomas on the Reserve/Non-Football Injury List and linebacker NaVorro Bowman, tight end Garrett Celek and defensive tackle Kaleb Ramsey were placed on the Reserve/Physically Unable to Perform List. Linebacker Blake Costanzo was released from the Injured Reserve list.
The 49ers placed six players on the non-football injury list, including second-year running back Marcus Lattimore (knee). Also on the list are receiver Bruce Ellington, center Marcus Martin, fullback Trey Millard, cornerback Keith Reaser and guard Brandon Thomas. In addition, the team placed nose tackle Ian Williams (ankle) on the PUP list along with linebacker Aaron Lynch (hamstring) and defensive lineman Kaleb Ramsey. All the players can come off the list and start practicing at any time.
